~Unit 15~ Looking Forward on the Internet
FINALLY! The end! As I reached the last unit of this course I was very happy as it has been such a stressful semester, so I am glad to see the end of it. However, it has been such a good semester in this class and I am so happy that I am taking it, so it is also hard to see it come to an end.
We posted to our discussions our goodbye’s to our section mates, TA’s, and Professor Gernsbacher. Even though I have not physically met anybody in my discussion, it was still a heartfelt message to them, as they have been helping me all throughout the semester with understanding the information and have helped me get through it all. I definitely feel more close to my chat groups as we talked a lot more and were truly having a conversation with each other rather than just responding to our discussion posts, so it was hard to say good bye to them.
We watched videos and read articles that encompassed how people have made predictions about the Internet in the past that have come true. For example, Arthur C. Clarke predicted that we would be using the Internet to be able to send pictures to each other and to also speak asynchronously in communication, which has definitely come true. It was funny watching videos of Katie Couric talking about the Internet back in the 90’s on a news show and everyone was really confused about the meaning of the Internet.
The Internet is still changing though, so there are many predictions that can still be made. I feel as though jobs and work forces will move into more Internet based work as people will then be able to work maybe from home and on their own time. I also think that in the homes there will still be much more growth of the Internet, so having something like a fridge that you can search recipes on I think is something that definitely could happen in the near future.
Then we posted about our term projects to the discussion post and that was the end of it! We have made it through! It has been such a good semester and I have learned so many different things through this class and I will be carrying these lessons and skills with me for the rest of my life. So happy for such a great semester! I would 100% recommend taking this class as you will learn so much and be so grateful for having taken it! Thanks for reading!
