Every parent dreams that their children will provide roof for them in their old age. In some cases, parents’ dreams become true but in other cases their dreams are left unfulfilled. After a particular age, the elders are no longer able to live independently and need support. Nowadays children are living out of the state or country for work. In other cases, kith & kin are with parents but due to busy schedule they don’t give proper attention to their parents. Considering all these problems of elderly in our society, Nirmala Kruti Bikash Trust (NKBT) is going to provide a homely atmosphere to the senior citizens with all facilities.
Old Age Homes are becoming a necessity in urban areas as most senior have no one to take care of them. Many of the homes are run free where senior citizens can get accommodation, medical assistance and food. But some are pay homes.
Normally, old age homes cram everything in one room that includes a wall-mounted personal shrine, pictures of deities hanging on walls, a rack containing utensils, some beds and a few boxes with biscuits and other eatables. On the other hand, NKBT believes in providing a homely atmosphere. Old people need care and attention in the present day society of turmoil. Presently, NKBT is running a Day care Center to provide recreation and rejuvenation facilities to the active elderly people with a well equipped physiotherapy center in place.
Plans are afoot to set-up ‘Old Age Home’ in a suburb of Bhubaneswar soon to provide much needed day care as well as overall shelter & service to the depressed, deserted and isolated old people. Trust will be monitoring the day to day activities to gain experience before setting of a fully fledged Old age home. We are constructing senior citizen home at Giringaput 22 Kms from Bhubaneswar, near Dress Dam.
As for health care services, there will be medical and nursing care round the clock. Besides these, there will be doctors on call for emergencies and monthly consultation.
NKBT solicits liberal donations from corporate and benevolent people. NKBT will advocate for their needs such as for universal pension, quality healthcare, action against elder abuse and many more at a national, state and societal level with central and state governments. It will work hand-in-hand with senior citizens associations understanding elder needs working with and for them.
The aim is to serve elder needs in a holistic manner, enabling them to live active, dignified and healthier lives. NKBT’s main mission is to work for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons and to improve their quality of life.
Awareness is the first step for concerted effort for advocacy. The senior citizens’ guide and other such publications of NKBT are an effort to create awareness among older persons and other stake holders.
