Samuel was having a tough time in his personal life, or what little he had of one outside of work, with his parents getting older more responsibility was falling on him, he needed a hand but due to the supernatural creatures he protected on the farm he was unable to hire an ordinary human. Due to the increase in work his relationship had crumbled rather quickly, his boyfriend wasn't willing to share his time with the farm and so he had cheated before finally breaking things off with Samuel.
He was taking a break as the sky began to turn red in the setting sun, the only tasks left was to lock everyone up and do a last sweep of the fences but it wasn't time for that yet. So he sat on a stool by the fence and watched as his jackalopes ran around and played, the townsfolk didn't come here so it was safe. He was leaning with his back against the fence but he was tired, so very tired, as a result he had drifted off, head tilted down so his hat shielded his eyes from what sunlight remained, unable to see or hear anyone or thing approaching.
