At some point, nearly blind in the dark, I stumbled off the road and caught a perfect view of our town through a clearing in the trees. From up here, it was a glimmering painting.

AUGHT EIGHT, more commonly referred to by its inhabitants as just 'the city' is a large dilapidated building of maybe 20 stories, hovering midair over a large impact crater, surrounded by similarly floating shards that appear to be from the impact itself. That is, the building appears this way from the outside.
On the inside, the city is just that— a city, but one that expands up instead of out. The building is apparently hollow in the center, and overgrown with greenery, still dilapidated in many places. Like a an apartment complex or hotel, the inner catwalks are lined with doors of all kinds, some open, some closed, some locked, and most decorated to the taste of their inhabitants. The suites they lead to can be as small as one room, or as large as several floors.
In the hollow center of the city, lanterns, tapestries, and banners are strung up between catwalks, some of which are wide enough to host markets and storefronts. These bustling hubs are most active at night, when citizens leave their homes and gather to shop, socialize, and go about their errands. There is no sky here, but the light changes from day to night, and occasionally even rain or a gust of wind will reach the sheltered center.
The number of floors contained in the city is impossible to count, and progressing down reveals increasingly more strange and unsettling areas. From time to time, one might also find a door leading directly out into the surrounding forests, known as the wilds, where youngsters are taught never to venture. The trees are even easier to get lost in than the city— and much more dangerous.
The city's inhabitants have lived here longer than any of them can remember, and rarely leave. Rather, once you've stumbled upon this place, it's very difficult to stumble back out again. Doors to the city can appear in any liminal place, and Aught Eight itself has a liking for appearing in deep forests where only lost travelers will glimpse it.
While the origin of Aught Eight itself is still shrouded in mystery, dragons of sornieth who know of its existence speculate that it has become a benign, semi-sentient home for a lost beast clan.
I recently played through the game Upturned and I decided to draw Shrimp!
I gave him ears to make him look a bit more dog-like but I think it made him look more like a panther instead lol
