forgot i promised my minister id be on a panel explaining gender identity/sensitivity today. to be fair UUs tend to be p chill, but my congregation is still v ignorant, so wish me luck i guess
I thought you and Judah didn't like follow a specific religion exactly? I was just wondering what Church you are going to and what your religion is and what you believe?
Well we're very very spiritual, and tend to shy away from organised religion, that much is true. But last week we took this quiz called "belief-o-matic" (super cheesy, I know), and it said that our beliefs align most closely with Unitarian Universalist. So we started looking around for UU churches in our area. Turns out there are two, and one of them is heavily influenced by Christianity, which is not what we like. So we decided to visit the other church and it was fantastic!
Basically, Unitarian Universalism is the most diverse, spirituality-grounded faith, at least that I've ever experienced. It draws from spiritual wisdom in all of the established religions, as well as encouraging a personal faith journey. Having been raised Catholic, it's pretty fascinating to experience a religion that actually encourages its followers to ask questions and learn about faith for themselves. And that's what UU is about, essentially. When we went to the service today, it felt really welcoming and I don't know, I felt like I was finally home, however cliche that seems.
These are the seven principles of the UU faith:
The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Wow church was so nice and good wow wow wow I didn't realise how much I needed a community and This particular church is the most spirituality-based, individualised church I've ever been to and I love it
