It had been a rough evening so far. A giant 21st birthday party had been camped out in the bar for hours, and they were lousy tippers. They’d finally left to go somewhere a little cooler, thank god, giving Lily a few minutes to clean up.

Now the place was empty aside from a few regulars. Lily noticed someone else come in out of the corner of her eye, and by the time she turned around she was surprised to find one of the most beautiful women she’d ever seen sitting right in front of her. “Hey,” she said, hoping that she hadn’t stared too long. “What can I get you?”

"What can I get’cha?" Sam didn’t look up as he watched gin pour out of the bottle in his hand into the shaker, crackling the ice cubes. He had asked by default at the sound of someone approaching the other side of the bar counter where he stood.
