Owen Grady had just graduated the Jaeger Academy when the UN cut the funding for it. He’d been resigned to having to find a new profession when Marshall Pentecost had contacted him about coming to the PPDC to be a candidate to pilot a Mach 3 Jaeger. Apparently they had a Ranger who had previously lost his copilot, and they were searching for a new one for their last hoorah.
Owen didn’t know if he had a chance to evn be compatible with this other pilot, but he knew being here was better than the empty stretch of destroyed land where his family ranch used to be. Owen pressed a hand to his heart, where he kept a picture of his mother, tucked into the breast pocket of his uniform. Anywhere was better than being there, with those memories.
He was heading down the elevator, the doors just starting to close behind him when he heard a voice calling for it to be held. Owen reached forward, pushing the open door button so that the smaller man could pass through.
“Almost didn’t make it.” he noted as water poured off the other’s umbrella in his hands, doors closing behind him.
