Me, whenever I get past Reks' Death intro in FFXII that makes everyone else cry and arrive at Vaan fighting rats in the waterway:

His parents

*Cries harder*

His parents died of the plague, and now he's a Rat Focused Vigilante, hunting down and taking out the creatures that spread it. When you talk to people in town you learn he's a beloved member of the community, he trains the orphans how to make a living if they have no other options, he is not paid for his services in the waterway, and every person you meet is either worried about him or just plain happy to see him

And I love him.
