I have a question about betta feeding, I'm going on vacation next week for 9 days and I was originally going to use the 7 day vacation feeder. What would be a better option? I could get someone to feed him, but I know they will over feed probably/possibly give wrong thing. Is that still better than the vacation feeder?

If by vacation feeder you mean those plaster blocks, definitely don’t use them. They can screw up the water chemistry and fish don’t recognize them as food, usually.

What I would do is have someone take care of your fish, and set out the food quantities and types in containers so all they have to do is dump it in -- that way they won’t feed more than two pellets (or whatever your fish eats) or so! I would use something like little deli cups (like you get take away sauce or whatever in) with lids. Put however many pellets in each container that he eats per day, and label them with the days of the week. If you feed frozen or gel you can keep the containers in the fridge or freezer. You could use plastic baggies or any kind of container you have access to! 

Put the rest of the food away, in a drawer or something, so they won’t be tempted to feed more than you put out for them. 

If you’re worried the person will think you’re starving your fish or something, write a little sign that says “Betta stomachs are smaller than their eye!” with a friendly looking doodle fish or smiley face, to stick on the tank.
