valkarna, the daughter-god of nebokraj

the mistress of the underground waters, of baptism and initiation rites, of the menstrual cycle, of brides, twins, witches, widows, and androgynes; as well as of everything dual, foreign, strange and transitional from one state into another.

her clergy traditionally consists of masculine women and feminine men. she is also the only nebokrainian deity that accepts foreign-faithed people as clergy.

despite her apparent femininity, many of her followers venerate her as a sacred androgyne, addressing her in a dual gender as "she-he", and with dual titles such as "king-queen" or "lord-lady". apotropaic figurines depicting valkarna with a beard are also common.

it is believed that the god-daughter guards the gates between the world and the beyond. she is often called the firstborn of njarlanai — the death personified.

valkarna is deeply connected with the lands of marble meadows — a liminal place that exists outside of time and reveals itself only to those who need it. they say this realm is a being with memory; the land here is alive and full of voices. storytellers, priests of valkarna touched by the beyond, wander these lands and gather her stories.
