You learned the hard way that cruelty was the only way to survive, sometimes a Goddess, sometimes a warrior, and most often both. Morrigan, they called you, in the company of two others you carved your way through history blood soaked and furious. One century into another, then another, and then a thousand; a mountain of victories, a horde of trophies, but nothing substantial to show for it. You’ve lived too long, dipped your blade in the blood of too many, cursed, hated, feared, and more but there are none remaining who remember all the fragmented pieces of the whole.

the emergent~

Flatlined on a table, something had blown in your mind and though they worked for hours to try and save you the truth is you were already gone before you landed in an operating room. An angel of death looked down upon you though and in your final moments they dropped a saving grace into you; a doctor and a healer they taught you how to control your urges and sponsored you as you opted to follow in their footsteps. You were fast so you were always first on the scene, you didn’t need to sleep so you were ready when a trauma came in, and when your sire passed on you took up the mantle. Doctor, healer, surgeon, you did what you had to do to honour the second chance at life you’d been given. Be good, be strong, be patient; while other vampires gave way to hedonism and debauchery you never fit in because whether it was from the vein or from the bag blood was blood and you never saw the appeal of tearing someone open. Long nights and late hours, sore muscles and aching feet, not even you can work forever.

the banker~

You weren’t born into this position, you wrestled it from the dying hands of a would-be mentor, an empire of gluttony that you happily sat yourself at the top of. Vampires were all inherently territorial, possessive, they used to say there was a reason why many didn’t gather in one place and Rome is packed to the bursting: blood demands blood. The senate always said whoever controls the blood controls the city, and they weren’t wrong. Between the vampires and the witches, half of the senate was in your backpocket for centuries. Now things are changing, they closed down your farm, they broke up the black market, how’s a person to make an honest living? Business took a dip but you’re a shark, where there’s water there’s blood and you always find a way to keep swimming. New ventures are cropping up and while the senate might try to strangle the life blood from your empire, you’ve weathered worse for longer. Ichor running over gold, how much is a life worth? Everyone has their price, riches, power, secrets: you’re a banker of it all.

Death was a kindness, an end to a mortal body’s long suffering, it was sweet - a release - but your sire took one look at your wretched and miserable form then decided that you deserved a second chance. Freedom from the shackles of powerlessness, they left you to your own devices and you threw yourself into everything that you had been given. Stronger and faster, eternally young and forever frozen in perfection; they left you with even more power than before. Insatiable bloodlust was a small price to pay when you could bewitch the minds of everyone who came after you, they were younger in years so your compulsion leveled them. As you grew this population just increased, it wasn’t enough for you to compel one person to be your thrall, or a tavern, but towns would come to your door and beg to feed you. Trouble would brew, then you would leave, another town, another place to throw your weight around.

The Prodigy~

Youth defined you at your turning, but ambition kept you from being held back. This was the life you wanted, one that you sought out - there was nothing to look back to, no reason to linger in your mortal life, not when undeath stretched in front of you. A cold comfort and for a time your only friend, your sire was a mentor and a champion, and they named you both progeny and prodigy. Naturally tempered and an even more natural leader, when you sired someone it was because they were worthy and they were deserving - but also because only the strong were chosen to marshal. One of the youngest of your kind, you rose still, quick to impose your power over those who stepped out of line. For a vampire anonymity was your friend and for those who threatened this secrecy there could be only one recourse. Rome turned its eye on you, potential evident with every move, and there you sat within the senate to mend what had been long broken.

The renaissance lived in your veins, you had a lust for life and a zest for the outcasts and the creators. Death was not grotesque, no, just like you when death came it was a beautiful and sweet embrace. It kissed your lips and found your next and promised you the sort of immortality that you’d always craved. Not everyone was born for this life, but you were made for it. There in an instant and then gone in the next, a wisp of smoke, a gush of air, a stray mist of blood and pain. Suffering bored you but blood? Blood would always be king. The world turned on its head and you reveled in every passing moment, one artist died and another took their place, one experienced a life of mediocrity and then in death they were immortalized. Rampant desires and voracious appetites, you wanted decadence, you wanted beauty, and you wanted forever.

The Hunger~

Power flowed through you, immortal and unyielding and it was this power that you used to tear through the world around you. Selfish desire brought your teeth to another and then another, but your hedonism spelled your ruin as you scorned the wrong family. A coven caught up with you after one of their own was found dead, bound, captured, and dragged to the depths of their ancestral home - they bled you for that ichorous strength that flowed through you. Generation after generation they kept you there, the old order fell away and a new one rose to take its place. Their prisoner and their captive sympathy grew when there was no one left who remembered you or cared for your crimes, but the ire of witches knew no end. They released you and bound you all at once, starved and cursed, you could never lay a hand on another witch.

Under his creed you became someone that mattered, you became something that was necessary. You were the crier that shepherded the magister’s arrival, you were the voice that carried out his great will. You were there at the founding of Rome and you were by his side when the battle against Amulius was won. Every dark deed that the magister needed accomplished was done, every foul secret that was to be kept hidden was well buried. You did not care about the price so long as the magister’s will was carried out: a thousand whispers but it was always his voice in your ear, telling you, compelling you, it has been so long that you’ve forgotten where his thoughts end and yours begin. You know this: you’re loyal to Romulus and Romulus alone, until the bitter end.
