Chapter 9 | Nightmare and dreamscape | Eric Yorkie
At the hospital, I and the gang were anxiously waiting to see how Tyler was doing. After he helped lift the truck to save Bella, he passed out. He took a nasty bang to the head during the crash, which the doctors said could have killed him. He had to be taken to intensive care and permanently monitored. We couldn't be allowed in to see him so we had to sit in the waiting room for what seemed like ages. My stomach was doing somersaults as I sat there wondering if he was ok. I'd already been to Lacey's funeral, I didn't fancy going to another.
While waiting I decided to check on Bella. Once the truck was lifted, Jessica, Angela and Mallory crawled under it to pull her and the other person out. Surprisingly, she was unharmed. Not so much as a scrape on her. She just lay on the ground in stunned silence. The doctors said it must have been the shock that stopped her from moving or crying for help. The other person seemed to be handling it a lot better. Turned out it was Edward Cullen who had been under the truck with her. Earlier, despite the doctor's insistence that he take it easy and get examined for unseen injuries, he ignored them and went for a wander through the hospital. When I reached Bella's room she wasn't there so I decided to head toward the hospital cafe. As I walked down the hall, I was nearly run over by a crowd of nurses rushing in with a patient who was on a stretcher. The man was still alive, trying to say something but unable to get out a word. He was covered in blood and massive wounds, which the nurses were trying to keep the pressure on. I wasn't sure if he was another victim of the Washington Vampires or what.
When we entered the hospital earlier, it was in such a mad dash that I didn't pay attention to what way we were going. Now I struggled to find my back through the maze of hallways that all looked the same. As I tried to remember which way led towards the elevator I entered an oddly quiet part of the hospital. I walked down the cold, white-walled corridors, looking for the signs to point me in the right direction. Instead of signs, I saw Dr Cullen disappearing into one of the rooms at the end of the hall. At first, I didn't want to disturb him, especially if he was with a patient, but after some thought and a slow walk down the hall, I decided to ask him for directions anyway. I could just give the door a quick knock and be on my way. What harm could it do?
As I neared the end of the corridor I recognised a voice from the other side of the door. It wasn't Dr Cullen but his adopted daughter, Rosalie. I could hear her timid whispers growing more incensed as I approached the door.
"How could you be so stupid? That boy could die!" She snapped, but not at Dr Cullen.
"Don't get bitchy with me." Emmett's apathetic tone rang through the door. "He started it," he said.
"Will the pair of you lower your voices. I must confess I am very disappointed in you, Emmett. Are you trying to get us all hung? Interfering with my plans and Flying off the handle like that. Today could have been a disaster for us." Dr Cullen said in a calm voice. I wondered what the hell that was supposed to mean.
"I agree with that last part." Rosalie urged. "If anything, I think today just proves we must forget the whole thing and get away from here."
"Not a chance Rose. Luckily for you Emmett, your little stunt today only confirmed what we already suspected. That we have a huge opportunity in our sights." He said. What little stunt? Was he talking about the fight with Tyler? What the hell did he think would come from that? I thought to myself.
"We couldn't possibly get all of them without raising suspicion, and even if we could, we don't have the time. Not with those murders drawing attention to us." Rosalie said.
"The wolves are suspicious of us and I've no doubt Aro is looking into this as we speak. The boy will recover and be back to his old self in no time. We just need to keep our heads down and carry on, till there is no doubt about us in this. Understand? Running will only raise more suspicions." Carlyle asked.
There was no response. Instead, I heard one of them coming towards the door. It was a bloody good job one of those old hospital trolleys was there for me to crouch behind or Rosalie would have seen me.
"Don't you dare walk away from me." Carlyle snapped at her.
"I'm not. I just... thought I heard something," she said.
"close the door and get back here. Edward's coming for a chat. He says it's important. Hopefully, he's found a way to fix this mess." He commanded.
When the Door closed I quietly stood up, wondering what the hell all that was about. I didn't feel hungry anymore and headed back to the waiting room, but not before hearing Bella talking to Edward as they came around the corner.
"I saw you standing beside the entrance. You were nowhere near me when the van lost control." Bella argued with him.
"Think what you like. No one will believe you." he sneered and walked away from her. I just kept walking towards her as he passed me by. I asked her to join me on the way back to Tyler's room and she agreed. As we reached the room it turned out our visiting time had come to an end, the doctors asked us to come back and see Tyler tomorrow.
That night I couldn't stop thinking about the Cullen's. I always knew they were a strange bunch but that was just weird. What were they after? How were they involved in the murders and why were they suspects? What was that about wolves and someone called Aro? My head was pounding as I climbed into my bed.
That night I dreamed I was walking barefoot through the cold streets. It was so strange as I walked along in my pyjamas, not sure where I was going. I soon found myself headed towards a large field that shouldn't have been there. In fact, the more I looked around, the more I realised that Forks was different. It was like I knew where I was but everything had been rearranged. My friend's houses were all together and facing the field which I now recognised. It was Mill Creek. It was the place were Lacey was killed.
As I looked out on to the field I saw a running figure appear from the distance. I didn't recognise Mike until he saw and screamed for me to run, and I saw more figures coming up behind him. I froze to the pavement when I saw that they were covered in blood, massive wounds and missing body parts.
"RUN YOU STUPID SON OF A BITCH! RUN!" Mike screamed as he shot forward and nearly knocked me off my feet as he grabbed my arm and pulled me along with him. The zombies chased us through the empty streets as we just kept moving. We tried to get inside the houses, battering on the doors and screaming for help. When no one responded we just kept running through the streets. As we went on, more zombies seemed to appear keeping us on Bogacheil Way and making it difficult to lose them.
"OH MY GOD! MIKE WE CANT KEEP RUNNING! WE NEED TO HIDE." I screamed.
Finally, we came to the open doors of the hospital, slammed the door shut and hid inside. "What the fuck was that?" I asked, struggling to catch my breath.
"I don't know man. This nightmare is freaking me out. I thought Lacey was really going to kill me this time" Mike cried.
"Lacey? Why on earth would she kill anyone?" I asked.
"I don't know. Last night I had almost the same nightmare. She turned up in my bedroom, but I was floating and I couldn't move, and tonight came back and just whaled on me and chased me out the door. I don't know what the hell she wants from me."
Before Mike could continue, we were interrupted by a noise around the corner. Hiding behind the receptionist desk, we listened to the sound of footsteps. I peeked over the desk and saw someone eerily walk past us. He was pulling something along the floor behind him, a body. We couldn't go back through the main entrance for fear of the zombies, and we couldn't use the emergency fire exit because of the automatic alarm. The only way to get out without drawing attention was the entrance at the other end of the hallway, which he was headed down.
"We need to get to the other entrance as quietly as possible," I whispered to Mike.
"Oh, you are out of your mind. Mr Body-bag's is headed down there." He whispered.
" If we can just get past him without being seen we should be fine. Its only one guy." I whispered.
As he slowly moved down the hall, we came out from behind the desk and peeked around the door frame. He stopped at another corridor with a sign pointing to the morgue. As he headed down that way we Quickly followed behind, hiding behind the water dispenser. The door was only a few feet away. "Laurent? What took you so long?" I nearly shit myself as a woman's voice called out.
"Sorry, Victoria. This one was more trouble than I thought." Laurent said.
We peeked around the door frame we saw Laurent more clearly. He was a tall, dark-skinned man with thick dreadlocks. The woman, Victoria was pail with a mop of fiery red hair. She had two victims tied up at the entrance to the morgue. As they talked we saw one of the three injured morticians trying to crawl away, but Victoria slowly walked up to him and hauled him back towards Laurent. "I want out. I can't do this anymore. I'm sorry." he tried to walk away, nearly spotting us, but Victoria took him by the arm.
"Please don't leave. I swear everything we are doing will be worth it in the end. Once James gets here with our getaway ambulance, we can finish the job, then everything will be alright. Don't you understand? Everything will be alright." She urged him.
Suddenly, a noise from behind the locked door caught their attention and Victoria smiled. "The newborns have awoken and they are hungry. I will ask you one final time, are you in or are you out?" She asked, to which he looked down at the terrified mortician before nodding in approval. With that Victoria opened the door and the pair began shoving the hysterical morticians in the room to be devoured by the newborns. We could hear their screams turn to choked whimpers as blood seeped out from under the door.
We tried to stay quiet but as we stood up I must have knocked the water dispenser because it suddenly started pouring water. Their heads snapped in our direction as their wide, blood red eyes locked on us. We bolted for the door as they gave chase, nearly ripping the door off its hinges when we opened it. We dashed out into the parking lot, only to be stuck in the path of blinding light of a speeding ambulance.
I felt a massive jolt as I sat up in the dark. "ERIC? ERIC WHAT HAPPENED?" My mother screamed as ran into my bedroom. "WHAT ARE YOU SCREAMING ABOUT?" She cried.
"I'm... I'm Sorry mum. I just had a bad dream. That's all." I looked around my room, wondering what the hell just happened.
"Eric? What's that on the side of your pyjama top?" She pointed to me. I looked down an realised it was water, but I had no water in my room. The only way water could have gotten on me was in my nightmare at the hospital.
