Mad About You || V Day Vanista

It had been about a month since Arista had first started coming to the Arcade. She’d strike up conversations with Van because she thought that she was ridiculously cute, but she often just got distracted by the games. Because that’s what she was there for, the games. Well, and the hot arcade owner but like you try to concentrate on either flashing lights and sounds and fun or like a cute girl. It was putting her in a rock and a hard place on most days.

But when she woke up today she knew things would be different from her morning routine, especially when all of her sisters were singing throughout the house. Even Daddy sang something briefly in the morning before scurrying off to his office in embarassment. There was obviously something weird going if even Attina was singing. 

She went about her day, hanging out with her twin as they giggled and snag things at each other, though really in her head all day she just wanted to go to the arcade. Hell, even Amelia was texting weirdly to everyone and that just made things all the better. The captain? Singing? Ugh she wished she could see but that same little sensation kept drawing her to the arcade. 

She left the house and walked down the street, grinning and looking at the people passing by when a

Why was she singing all she did was think about Van? She was pretty and sweet and funny and all of that but she wouldn’t think she was like in love with her. Nah, Arista just loved everyone, it wasn’t anything--Oh look the arcade.

Ooo heaven is a place on Earth

She opened the door and moved to go to her usual games when something was tugging her in the opposite direction towards the front desk, she stopped in front of it, propping her head on her hand which was resting up against the counter top and as the girl looked up and their eyes contacted she broke out into a grin and a song.

For weeks- literal, actual weeks- Vanellope had been obsessing over Mrs. Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat, depending on Arista’s mood. See one week Arista would say that Mrs. Pac-Man was her favorite (that’s where all this started) and then unbeknownst to Van she would switch it up, claiming that Mortal Kombat was her all time favorite game that stood inside of Sugar Rush. Really, it was driving her kind of crazy. Like why did it have to change each week? That gave her no time at all to beat all of the high scores on each game so that she could reset the names on the final screen.

Oh, which was what she was doing, by the way. Resetting the names of the highest scores to ask Arista out, like officially.

But now, now she had done it. It was ready for Arista to find, casually, while Vanellope watched excitedly. It had taken her forever to beat Ris’ high score on Mrs. Pac-Man, because she was better at the original, you know? Like the Mrs. version was different and Van was so used to the original, that was why. She’d been fiddling with the last entry on the screen when she heard someone behind her.

“Hey, no beating the high scores on this one, alright? I just got it finished.”
