I got one of these from brita1x1 and vanityofwriting, and I’ll answer both here! Thank you both so very much for sending it to me, I’m elated that I’m on a list of your favorite followers.
It’s a form of stress relief, I’ve used roleplaying as an escape along with books and friends for as long as I can remember. I’ve given it up probably about a dozen times, but it’s too hard to let go of.
The people I meet be it through group or 1x1 roleplaying are wonderful people that generally let me geek out to them about head canons, plot ideas, or for bitching about my characters when they get on my nerves.
I fall madly in love with my characters and the characters that my darlings get to interact with. I invest a lot into the characters in roleplay and I most definitely feel the blow when one of them dies, when a relationship goes sour, or if they go through a hard time. To my credit, the investment is almost always worth it, both my own characters and the ones I play opposite to always keep me at the edge of my seat.
It gives me an excuse to stare at my favorite faceclaims without being a huge stalker.
I’d like to think that roleplaying has made me a more accepting person. I’ve played against muses and muns that come from all sorts of walks of life and have all sorts of reasons to act the way that they do, and it’s really helped me to understand the world outside of my little bubble way out here in the country. Or, again, so I’d like to think.
