SOLIDLY ON THE TRASH HEAP. It really appeals to me that it's a case of a mature love, you know? I feel like M/M and S/T were really passionate first loves but now that Mary and Tom are older it's time for a love that can grow and adapt.

Yeah. I loved M/M. A lot. I still do, honestly.

But I think it’s true that M/M and S/T were young loves. Which is totally fine! Nothing wrong with that at all.

But the characters are older now.

It makes sense for them to have a different kind of relationship. It’s not inferior to those first loves.

It’s just different. Quieter. More mature.

Also didn't Michelle say Mary would have a big change of heart or something (I think she said "U-turn"?). If that refers to Henry, color me surprised, because I've seen nothing of the sort so far. I'm having trouble staying awake in their scenes tbh.

There was speculation that the u-turn would have to do with Edith and Marigold but idk. I think that’s still possible. Like, I think she’s hurt that no one told her about Marigold so that could motivate a change in how she relates to Edith.

(but lol Edith is awful to Mary too. She was shitting on Henry and being a brat too, so... Is Edith going to have a change of heart too?)

I WOULD DIE IF IT ENDED UP BEING ABOUT MARY/TOM.

You both love Downton.

You have chemistry.

You’re widow/ers who lost their Great Loves, but could definitely find a real love with each other.

COME ON, MARY AND TOM.

Right? The big source of angst for the relationship is that ~driving is how Matthew died~ but I mean, is there anyone who even cares about that? When you remove cars from the picture, what is Henry's personality? I don't know, and that's a problem.

Right and if that’s the big source of angst in this relationship... it should have been brought up sooner in an explicit way. And like... actually a source of real conflict instead of just “oh... I don’t know if I want to go watch Henry race”.

Yawn.

Seriously though. I have a much better sense of who Bertie is as a character than Henry. God, can you imagine someone of Mary’s wit being stuck with a guy who can apparently only talk about cars?

FELLOWES NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ASAP TO SAVE THIS DISASTER.

Henry is so boring and I'm confused as to what people see in him, tbh.

From what I can tell, it’s mostly that 1) he’s Matthew Goode and 2) he is super into Mary. Which yeah, he does appreciate Mary’s wonderfulness. But he’s so boooooring.

Ooooh. He races cars. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE A CHARACTER. LIKE, DAMN.

Even Bertie has more development with the same screen time.

Fellowes is really dropping the ball with Henry. Which is a crying shame because Henry is endgame to one of Fellowes’s best and favorite characters.

I'm so confused as to where Fellowes is going with Mary's love life... I realize that Matthew Goode was in New York while they were filming the first few episodes of this season, but if Henry is endgame he definitely should have been around sooner.

Yeah... if Henry was going to be endgame, Fellowes should have made sure Matthew Goode would be around to really develop him.

And if he wasn’t available, then Fellowes should have scrapped that plan and brought back Charles Blake.

Eh... I just... I really don’t think we’re going to get a satisfactory ending to Mary’s love life.

IDK. I haven’t seen 2x07 yet but I think there’s a very good chance he’s going to die before the season’s over. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mae had to kill him in self-defense or something.

I've been constantly checking my torrent sites, but I haven't seen it pop up yet. :(

Portlandia also hasn't appeared.

So everything is terrible.
