Sorry this took so long! I hope you don’t mind, Anon

Words: 1296(Yay!)
Pairing: Vantablack
Ink by Comyet/Myebi
Nightmare by Jokublog
----------------------------
The skeleton sat there, looking around his room, questioning what colors he’d see next. Unlike others, who saw one or two colors, possibly more but he didn’t know, the colors Nightmare could see always changed. One moment blue and yellow, the next red and green. He might be able to see the bright colors of the sea and sky in one moment, only for it to be replaced with shades of grey seconds later, and for the colors of the trees and grass to be bright in his eyes.
What he noticed from all the shifting is that purple isn’t a common color, as far as he could tell, so that was why it had always been his favourite color. He also loved that his clothes used to be purple, but that was now replaced with black and blue. Whilst he was normally too busy to think about it, and often didn’t care, when Nightmare had time to himself like this, the comforting silence let his mind wander, and he thought about what his soulmate’s eyes could be like.
They changed colors, which was obviously interesting, but what made them change? Maybe their eyes changed based on how they were feeling? It could be possible, and definitely cool, but the colors changed too often, and Nightmare would almost always see more than one color. But the biggest mystery to Nightmare was that occasionally he’d see no color. The first time it happened, Night panicked that his soulmate could have died before meeting him, only to be relieved when the colors came back.
Being left alone long enough, Nightmare eventually started thinking about what his soulmate could see. Obviously it would be blue, but before his eyes were purple, so it was clear that it would have changed for them at some point, which would be confusing, ri-
“Bosssssss!”
Nightmare sighed, a bit agitated; he was needed. He stood, pushing his chair back and walking to his door as he watched it go from a dark brown to a dark grey when he opened it.
~~~
In battle, Nightmare and his brother were oddly respectable, so when Nightmare was faced with Dream once again, he stopped his group when Dream brought up he wanted to wait for his reinforcements to arrive to make the fight fairer, so Dream wasn’t a one man army. Nightmare waited patiently, but it wasn’t long before a blue-clad skeleton hopped up out of.. A puddle? And he was followed by... A skeleton in full color.
Brown overalls hanging down, a white tee, and a notable rainbow sash across his front, and his eyes? His eyes changed shape and color. Nightmare saw all of this, all of the colors on him, all sticking out brightly. Entranced for a few moments, Nightmare was brought back by noticing Dream and the two new monsters readying their attacks, as were his bad sanses.
Almost immediately, Nightmare called a retreat, forcing his side back and away, quickly taking them all back to the mansion, ignoring the confused questions mixed with angry retorts of wanting to fight. Then the second they were back, Nightmare practically ran upstairs, heading right to his room, continuing to ignore how his allies riddled him with questions, as his tentacles lashed out behind him all the while.
In his room, Nightmare paced. He paced and paced, having to sort his own questions running though his mind. How would he deal with his soulmate being his brother’s friend? His worst enemy’s friend? Would he have to fight against him? Not only that but how did the colorful skeleton not stop and realise he could see colors when looking at him? Was it possible he could see colors before? But that’s not too important now, just his curiosity getting the better of him.
No, the most important question right now was:
What was he going to do now?
~~~
After dealing with Error for so long, Ink jumped when Dream asked for him to help him fight against his brother. Ink always heard about Nightmare from Dream, and even some others, how he was apparently completely covered in black goop that shone blue? And was the opposite of Dream; The Guardian of Negativity!
It honestly sounded awesome, but it would suck that Ink wouldn’t be able to immediately get in some notes about him, because they’d be going into battle the second they met. And speaking of that! Ink was just sitting thinking since his talk with Dream, but he had to go prepare. Befo re that, though, Ink noticed the color fading from his vision. Except blue, of course, the color of his soulmate’s eyes.
Luckily for Ink, his vials not only gave him emotions, but he could see all colors with them, letting him know when he had to take his vials again from the visual cue of everything losing saturation. And now that he took them, it was to prepare to battle, and head to the location after picking up Blue! Ink was excited, to say the least.
~~~
“He just... Retreated?” Ink turned to Dream, confused in their brother’s actions. Ink expected more from someone he heard so much about. In fact, Ink had only looked at Nightmare in the few moments he had to look at him and his team, because he didn’t think the others would be too interesting.
But he saw that he’d get no answers from Dream, who wore a way more expressive confused look than either Ink or Blue. Dream looked completely baffled, even, expecting anything other than that response from his brother.
“What the fuck??” Ink had to hold in a laugh from that. He never heard Dream swear!
“You good, Dream?” Blue asked, not as amused as Ink was, but rather stunned.
“Yeah, I’m- Yeah.. But Nightmare has never been one to retreat! That’s so unlike him!... I need to figure out what happened”
“I volunteer to spy on him!” Ink chirped out, causing Dream and Blue to look at him.
“I’m really sneaky! I can do this for you, Dream”A grin formed on the artist’s mouth, knowing he would do it regardless of the answer.
Dream sighed, “Ink-”
“Yeah? Cool, thanks Dream, byee!” Ink exclaimed, collapsing into a puddle and leaving with no further input.
~~~
Ink ran around the doodle sphere, giddy and giggling as he gathered some things he thought he’d need. Mostly some paints and smaller brushes as he knew he’d leave Broomie behind, not wanting either Broomie to get damaged, or for Broomie to give him away from his size. So, he went out alone.
Looking up at the mansion he was faced with, Ink frowned. It was tall, and cool and stuff, but it was solid black! So boring! He could only hope the inside was better, and had color. At least if it wasn’t at least he could blend in more.
Ink fell into a black puddle and went in, slipping under the door, excited to see dark purples, blues and browns filling the main room, making for a nice color scheme, but he shook it off as he had no time to admire the decor, he’d have to slip away before one of the sanses bickering on the couch saw him.To his advantage, his black was complementing the dark colors, so one of them would have to look directly at him for him to stand out on the dark patterned carpet.
Ink slipped up the stairs, a bit slow because he had to travel upwards, but he figured it would be fine. When at the top, Ink looked down the hallway of doors, and slid down it until he heard footsteps and muttering coming from a room with a blue crescent on the front. Perfect.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough room for him to flow under the door, so Ink just reformed and sat outside to listen, pressing his head to the door.
“Why did I have to see him then, of all times?” Who does he mean?
“Ugh, this is stupid! I shouldn’t have to be worrying over this now,” Ink heard a soft thump, presumably Nightmare crashing onto his bed?
“Dream is gonna think I’m a wimp for running like that.”
Ink snickered, the sentence reminding him of how Dream actually reacted with utter confusion. But then he realised his mistake when his snicker was met with silence... Then angry stomping towards the door.
“WHO IN THE HE-” Nightmare stopped when he saw Ink sitting back on the floor, an awkward smile on his face as he went “Ahehe... Hi.”
The rage Nightmare felt thinking it was one of his crew instantly faded upon hearing the skeleton laugh again. It was mischievous, definitely, but also.. Cute.
Nightmare shook his head to clear it and took the artist in grasp with one of his tentacles, bringing him to his room and slamming the door, before holding him up in front of him for interrogation.
“Why are you here?” Ink saw no harm in replying truthfully, so he did.
“Wanted to know why you left without fighting,” Ink told with a shrug.
“You don’t know?” Nightmare’s face twisted to show confusion, and he dropped Ink on the floor. “What color do you see?”
“It’s a bit complicated, but I mean, all of them, thanks to these,” He gestured to his vials, “Other than that, I see blue.”
Nightmare brought a hand to his chin as he stood back from Ink, thinking about that.
“Well, aren’t you gonna fight me or something? I am on Dream’s side, you know, Nightmare?” Ink tilted his head.
“No, not you.. I won’t ever fight you.” This only confused Ink more. “What’s your name?”
“Me? I’m Ink!” Ink proudly stated, holding a thumb to his chest as he stood.
“Your eyes change color, so that must be pretty annoying for your soulmate..” Nightmare said, staring sideways at Ink.
“Oh.. Yeah I guess so, huh? I don’t really think about my soulmate, though I am curious about their eyes being blue!”
“Because it used to be purple?”
“Yeah! How’d you know?”
Nightmare turned to Ink and just stared, and it took him a while.. A long while.. Almost a minute before Ink’s expression fell as he realised.
“You! You’re my soulmate!?” Ink gasped dramatically before Nightmare covered his mouth with a hand, and leaned in to whisper.
“My crew have probably heard us already, and now they’re definitely going to come up here after hearing you yell that!” Ink ended up with a flush on his face from how close Nightmare got, so fast and unexpectedly, ending up barely listening to what he said.
“Leave now, we can discuss this some other time, somewhere more priva- Hey! What are you-?” Nightmare was cut off by Ink removing his hand... Leaning down.... And bringing their faces closer..
this probably has nothing to do with anything you've been thinking about, but Nightmare needs a goddamn bath. Who's the lucky one that gets to shove him into the suds?
I absolutely love this. I wasn’t going to write it, just reply with my thoughts, but nope. It was too great.
Nightmare letout a shriek of fury as he got shoved into big puddle of paint. Falling throughwas a bewildering sensation, and dizziness overtook him as he felt himself fallout again. Face distorting into a frightening grimace, he made a move to twistaround and make the one guilty of this regretit. Something hard, wooden, hit his back, not giving him the chance. Hestumbled over the edge of one of the bathtubs he had had installed after theEvil Sanses moved in. Water filled his entire field of sight, and he splutteredas he felt it surrounding him until he hit the bottom.
Goo immediatelystarted to colour the water black. He hissed viciously as he, gasping and spitting,managed to get his head over the surface. With a snarl, his tentacles shot upfrom the water. They drooped slightly, heavier than normal. The eternal streamof dripping goo had increased, mixed with bubbly, purple bath soap. Loud laughterbounced at the walls and mocked him.
When heturned around to threaten Ink – it was obvious who had done this, only onebeing travelled through paint and would have the guts to do such a thing – hisscowl deepend. Indeed, it was Ink who was standing in front of the tub. Thesoulless freak was leaning at his giant brush and laughing his ass off.
Ink stooddoubled, clutching his stomach with one hand and holding the brush with theother. As the Lord of Negativity hissed venomously, he didn’t even have mannersenough to look afraid or stop laughing.Instead he glanced at Nightmare, pausing for a short second before it doubled. AsNightmare’s tentacles shot out toward him, he easily sidestepped into a paintpuddle and appeared on the other side of the room. The laughter had mercifullystopped, but he was still grinning widely.
“Aw, c’mon my lord,” he chuckled, sweeping out withan arm and bowing lightly. “You’re really fricking dirty, you know. All thatmud-“ he gestured at all of Nightmare and the black substance covering him –“it’snot exactly nice to watch. You needed a bath.”
Without utteringa word, Nightmare spat out some of the soapy water and another tentacle shotout toward the Guardian. He growled, intent on making the other suffer. But likethe fucking anomaly the other was, he was too quick for his tentacles. Inksimply gave him a mocking salute, stepping into the same puddle as before.
“See ya,Nighty,” he called out and disappeared. Nightmare’s furious shrieks echoedthrough the bathroom. A guard poked in his face curiously, eyes widening at thesight he was met with. With an expression of pure terror on his face, he slammedthe door close.
“Hey, you!”Nightmare yelled, starting to step out of the tub. “Get the fuck back here!”
If hecouldn’t punish Ink, then he’d just have to take his anger out on someone else.
My thoughts on this was the most obvious choice was Dream, but that’d be kind of boring. Ink, on the other hand, would totally do this if he get the opportunity. He’s a freaking asshole. As well as a prankster, and he’d find this hilarious. So if he can teleport in and out of NM’s castle, then he’d take the chance as soon as it arose.
Also I absolutely adore this and thank you so much for sending me this ask. Dear stars is it a beautiful picture.
Cheesy but idgaf.

- Lost Boy by Ruth B
Yes I’m back on Vantablack hello hi.
I like to think Ink would make all kinds of animals with his paints to try and bring up NM’s mood huehue. Those rare smiles be getting less rare. Giving him a complete Whole New World moment, but it’s Lost Boy instead. Cuz that fits them better. 0-0
(〜 ̄▽ ̄)〜
I’ve thought of this kind of scenario before, where NM tried to summon Ink for help, and he didn’t show up. This betrayal coupled with new pain and wounds he’s pretty sure he can’t hide from Dream is kind of the tipping point that leads to him eating the apples.
And because I don’t like making Ink a horrible person: he was either fighting Error, or in the middle of respawning after being killed by Error. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
I would’ve lined this but by the time I was done sketching I just. Didn’t feel like it. This should be the last angsty prompt. XD Don’t quote me on that but it shOULD.
