Jason Sudeikis was one of the 500 most influencial people in Hollywood last year, according to Variety.

Sudeikis is finding it hard to quit “Ted Lasso.” There’s renewed talk of bringing te Apple TV+/Warner Bros. TV series back for a fourth season after previously calling it a wrap with Season 3 in 2023. In 2023, Sudeikis also starred in Charlie Day’s indie film “Fool’s Paradise.” The actor got his start on “SNL” and went on to star in various comedies such as “We’re the Millers” and “Horrible Bosses.” In October 2024, the 2017-2018 Comedy Central series “Detroiters,” which Sudeikis executive produced, was nabbed by Netflix, giving a streaming showcase to the existing episodes. He also is part of the voice cast of Hulu’s adult animation series “Hit-Monkey.”

Returning to Variety500 in 2021 is Taylor Swift, who remains a steadfast force in music as she re-records her older albums to critical acclaim and serious sales.

The hits truly never stop for Swift, whose “Folklore” won the album of the year Grammy in March 2021 after breaking multiple streaming records upon its surprise 2020 release. The project sold an astounding 1.3 million copies in its first 24 hours on its way to becoming bestselling album of the year, while rapid follow-up “Evermore” gave Swift her eighth consecutive Billboard 200 chart-topper in December. The singer’s hot streak continued in 2021 with complete re-recordings of her 2008 album “Fearless,” which hit #1 in April, and 2012’s “Red” in the first half of November, which resulted in the year’s 2nd-highest album sales by that point behind Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy,” plus a #1 Hot 100 debut for single “All Too Well.”

“Not that she wasn’t already a star, but when Gaga rocked the red carpet in a feathered pink Valentino Couture confection at 2018 Venice Film Festival, it seemed a celestial being had descended. Whether she scores an Oscar nomination for Bradley Cooper’s remake of “A Star Is Born” — and finds the cinematic longevity that evaded her pop-star role model, Madonna — remains to be seen, but her movie debut reeled in consistently glowing reviews. Sudeikis is pursuing his third comedy lead actor Emmy in a row for “Ted Lasso” — the show he created and stars in. The series has racked up 11 Emmys so far, earning 21 more nominations for its third season. “Ted Lasso” was a leader in putting Apple’s original content on the map; CEO Tim Cook even showed up at the show’s Season 3 premiere. Sudeikis also recently starred in Charlie Day’s “Fool’s Paradise.” The actor got his start on “SNL” and went on to star in various comedies such as “We’re the Millers” and “Horrible Bosses.” Sudeikis has not confirmed Season 3 as the last for “Ted Lasso,” but the speculation over how the series will live on — through another season or a spinoff — goes to show the impact of Sudeikis’ creation.

Sudeikis won back-to-back Emmys for lead actor in a comedy in 2021 and 2022 for “Ted Lasso,” the Apple TV+ series he developed and stars in, which earned 20 nominations at the most recent Emmy Awards. The series is an awards darling and helped put Apple’s content business on the map, propelling Sudeikis into TV’s top tier. The actor — who became a comedy star on “SNL” known for playing Joe Biden and Mitt Romney when he was a writer and cast member from 2005 to 2013 —­ made headlines this year, denying any involvement in an unfortunate incident at Cinema­Con where his former partner Olivia Wilde was served custody papers onstage. Still, the Emmy love for Sudeikis this past year proves his star remains luminescent for voters and audiences alike.
