Helmsman Demora Sulu and the constellation Vela
There is once again parallels to be drawn between a constellation and a member of the crew of the U.S.S. Eridan, this time between the constellation Vela and Demora Sulu.
The constellation of Vela represents the sails of a ship, the legendary Argo from the Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts. Classically, this constellation was within the larger constellation Argo Navis, along with Carina and Puppis. This is the start of our symbolic links. Demora is a very independent person. She's responsible, and demonstrate her capabilities as a crewmember and as a helmsman, taking split second, decisive decisions when the time calls for it. Yet, despite this strength alone, where she truly shine, is as a part of a whole. As a part of the bridge crew, she works a wonder with navigator Wane Perry, and on away missions where she is sent, she demonstrate incredible teamwork. She is before everything a sociable person, and in time of crisis, is able to put the greater good before herself or her fear to take part in the team effort.
To continue, Vela more precisely represents the sails of Argo Navis. The sails, which with the ship is propelled by the wind, guided by the helm. As helmsman, Demora Sulu steers the ship, and is a great part of why the U.S.S. Eridani can go across the stars.
Additionally, the sails and their connection to the wind can also relate to Demora Sulu's easygoing personality. She can mix with most groups and make friends with a variety of people. She's quick-witted and funny, and has a positive outlook on-life. In short, she's a social butterfly, flowing on the wind of conversations and life.
