THE  RESEMBLANCE  WAS  UNCANNY  :  she  even  had  her  mother’s  snark.  the  corners  of  his  lips  almost  twitched  up  in  something  resembling  a  smile,  but  he  forced  it  down,  head  canting  to  the  side  as  he  put  his  hands  up  in  a  gesture  that  said  ‘ i’m  harmless. ‘  “well,”  he  started,  bringing  one  of  his  hands  to  his  chest  to  point  at  the  badge.  “i  am  the  sheriff,”  he  reminded  her,  letting  both  hands  fall  to  his  sides.  “listen,  you  seem  like  a  good  kid.  i  don’t  want  to  have  to  take  you  in  to  the  station.  how  about  i  just  take  you  to  your-”  he  almost  said  the  word  mother  but  caught  himself.  there  was  a  brief  pause  before  he  corrected  himself.  “-home.”

     sophia   was   like   one   of   his   own   at   this   point.      went   through   hell   and   high   water   for   that   girl,   and   her   mom.      he   KNOWS   carol   is   suffering   right   now,   and   he   knows   she’s   probably   not   paying   sophia   the   attention   she   should.      but   GRIEF   does   shitty   things   to   a   person,   can   CHANGE   THEM.      daryl   is   just   HOPING   it’s   not   a   PERMANENT   change.      still,   even   though   she’s   been   behaving   irrationally   lately,   he   still   doesn’t   like   that   kind   of   TALK   from   sophia.      while   the   sentiment   is   sweet,   he   can’t   look   past   the   obvious   BASHING   of   her   mother.

It took a while for all pieces to fall into place in his mind, for the dust to settle and everything to make sense.  The wedding gone array, gunshots and the church destroyed.  Uncle Barry, Dad, Emma, and the car full of semi-strangers ... all of them were CIA.  The entire time.  His heart is pounding as he clings to Romi and Sandy.  At least Mom and Carter look as shocked he does ━━ they didn't know either. 

Suddenly more things become clearer to Oscar.  All the times he felt like Emma and Dad were lying to him.  Knew they were lying to him, but he never had any proof.  Never really had any reason to suspect other than a gut feeling or a couple or words not adding up.  But there was always a connection between Luke and Emma, a bond that he didn't have with his son.       ❝   Wait Dad, you and Emma have been lying to us the entire time ?   ❞       The words were pointed at his father but said to Emma as well.       ❝   How ...  how long have you been working for the CIA ?   ❞

This wasn't the first time Billy had messed up, blamed it on the bottle, and woken up in bed with another woman.  This was just the most recent time.  This time it was a waitress, he was out with some friends from work.  They covered for him last night, but who knows what they would do in the morning when sobriety hit and their conscience returned.  He wouldn't blame them if they told Becca.  He deserved it.  Whatever he had coming. 

❝   Ah fuck,   ❞       Billy groans at the world.  All of it too much right now.  He's washing up in waitress's bathroom while she's still passed out.  He's trying to piece together the events of the night but he can't.  He black out.  He's only getting fragments.  The feeling of her lips against his.  Knowing his should stop but pushing on anyway.  Calling Becca, telling her that was too drunk and going to sleep in car.  He'll be home in the morning.  He remembers the words living his lips but not her response.  He splashes water on his face and turns his head from side to side looking for any marks.  He seems to be in the clear. 

On his way home he stops for coffee, doughnuts, and flowers.  A bit pitiful, but he can't come home empty handed.  He walks through the door with his shades on, the bouquet in his hand, and a dozen doughnuts.       ❝   Sorry I couldn't make it home last night, love.   ❞
