Cybertronians & Breathing

Cybertronians, unlike humans, have no need to breath; at least in the way we do.

Cybertronians have vent systems that keep them cool cycling air into, out, and around the vents to do so. This creates a breathing look alike where the chest and, most times, outer limbs will expand and contract when there is airflow in the vents.

In hotter temperatures where the coolant system isn’t enough the breathing effect will be far more noticeable and in colder environments they will “hold their breath” (looks like their puffing out the way birds do) to stop the colder and sometimes moist air from getting into their systems.

Though cybertronians don’t breathe they are able to sneeze and cough!

A sneeze happens when the vent system has something in it being dust or a larger blockage causing the vent system to pause then let out a large airflow. Cybertronians will have multiple and often violent sneezes if the irritation is deeper in the vents and if the irritation is close to one of the exit points they will just let out a quick blow of air. If one Cybertronian sneezes then others nearby will sneeze too! This is because if one is getting stuff out of their vents what ever was upsetting that cybertronians vents is in the air and now is in danger of getting into others vents, so to keep the irritation away the others sneeze to blow it away. Humans have contagious yawns Cybertronians have contagious sneezes!!

Coughing happens when there is a blockage in the intake. The Cybertronian takes in a bit of air and the rest of the sound is just the intake or intake pipe trying to get the blockage out.

Fun Fact: Cybertronians can still choke eachother out. Although they aren’t depriving eachother of air they are cutting off the flow of energon to the Brain Module. This is why they can’t die by walking underwater but can if choked long enough.

Does the vent system lead outside?

There's sort of a map of the vent system in the office somewhere, I did see it once, I think it exists for maintenance purposes. The only way outside is it leads up the roof, which no, I can’t climb up a metal wall, plus if I got on the roof, it's a pretty big drop to the ground, this body might not survive if I jump off and I don’t want to kill myself.
