Ventifacts = rocks carved by the wind (by nbeard3)
Today I got back in touch with @ventifacts in the namelessshipping discord server, and I realised I had never posted that one unfinished fanart for her beautiful fanfic Halcyon!! It's that one beautiful scene in chapter 4 :)
Sorry for never finishing it but thank you again for writing this fanfic! I enjoyed it very much back in 2017, and it’s still a very fond memory :’)
fic: steel to lightning
fandom: pokemon characters: jasmine, volkner prompt: things you didn’t say notes: a prompt from twitter, for @ventifacts
Finally I managed to finish this! It’s a piece of fan art for @ventifacts‘ incredibly well written fanfic Halcyon (Archive of our Own | Dreamwidth | Fanfiction.net).
This drawing does not show any scene in particular, rather it’s my interpretation of the whole melancholic tone underlying the text. Most of it is told from Green’s perspective, and his perception and his feelings are woven into the language so well that reading it really becomes an experience. The plot feels so real, too; there are multiple characters involved and they all seem to have their own lives, and the romance is not depicted as if it were the only and ultimate goal.
Soon the last chapter will be up, and I'm recommending reading all of it to anyone who likes Green with Red, or maybe just Green. It’s so nice to see into a character’s head/heart that so rarely exposes his feelings in the canon.
Ventifactosabery (noun):
Geology: The process by which wind-eroded stones, known as ventifacts, are shaped into sharp, blade-like forms, often resembling a saber, through continuous, unidirectional abrasion by sand-laden winds over extended periods of time.
Literary: A metaphorical term describing the gradual, deliberate refinement of a concept or idea through persistent and focused criticism or examination, resulting in a finely honed, precise articulation.
Etymology: Derived from "ventifact," referring to stones shaped by wind erosion, combined with "ostensive," relating to direct demonstration or definition, and "sabering," from the word "saber," a sharp-edged weapon, denoting the blade-like result of this process.
