"Tell me why we have to do this again?" Regulus asked, wiping a hand over his forehead as he stretched, taking a quick break from weeding.
"To keep the garden tidy," James said. "We don't want the weeds overtaking the vegetables."
"Yes, I understand that Potter," he said. "But why can we just vanish them? Why do we have to labour out here under this horrible sun?"
"Don't worry, you get used to it after a while," James grinned. "Builds character or something at least."
"Right," Regulus grumbled, yanking out another weed and throwing it in the bucket.
"Careful," James exclaimed. "You didn't get the roots of that one, here. Otherwise they'll grow back."
"Hello boys, how are you going?" Effie asked, coming out with a plate of biscuits. "These are for you, and there's homemade lemonade inside if you're getting thirsty."
"Thanks mum," James said, taking the plate from her and offering one to Regulus.
"Sirius and Remus are almost finished painting the fence, and as soon as they're done they can come and help you two." She smiled, leaving them with the biscuits and hurrying back inside.
"She's turned us all into her little servants," Regulus said mournfully, eyeing all of the weeding they still had left to do.
"Yeah, but we get her homemade baking in return," James said. "So it all evens out."
"Her baking is good," Regulus said, biting down on another cookie.
