Small Business Distractions
So I was driving back to work from lunch yesterday, windows down and enjoying the warm 75 degree day. I had a productive morning at work and was very focused on what I needed to get done that afternoon. I was just thinking about some new ideas for a project we're working on as I got stopped at a red light (disregard the fact that I should be focused on driving rather strategizing). Before I knew it, a big bee flew in my car. Needless to say, I started shrieking like a little girl and waving my hands all over the place. The light changed, cars started honking, so I had to keep driving even though that bee would not fly back out the window. I proceeded to turn left waving at the bee and screaming. I kept focusing on the bee trying to get it out of my car window as soon as possible. I was so focused that when I looked up, I literally had to slam my foot almost through the brakes to stop. The car in front of me decided to make a right turn out of no where without a blinker and I came within inches of getting into a nice little fender bender. Phew. I took a deep breath and composed myself. I got back to work, sat down in my office and started to think. I could not remember the new great ideas I had been composing in my head.
Sometimes distractions happen by chance. Sometimes we bring them upon ourselves. Regardless of what form they come in, distractions are the antithesis of being productive. Sometimes we need them for our sanity. But as young ambitious go-getters, distractions are the biggest obstacle we will face. Not money (you can find investors), not genius (oh you got that), and not originality (psh.. please.. you were born that way Picasso!). Avoid the distractions and remember whats important. Remember your final goal.
Takeaway– Discipline brings results. Find Discipline, Find Results.
