That post on Axel and Achilles parallels is a work in progress (because I don't know how to not be wordy about these things) but, in the meantime: consider that Ventus is a Jesus reference (c'mon, one of his battle spells is called "Salvation"), Vanitas is a Satan reference, and that technically makes Xehanort God, as he "created" them both, so to speak. (By freeing Ven's darkness and giving rise to Vanitas, and by bringing Ven to Destiny Islands where he found a heart to complete his heart anew.)

As much as Birth By Sleep's story is dependent on all 3 characters, the opening really frames Ven and Terra (moreso Terra) as the protagonists. Which is funny because out of the three, Aqua is the only one framed as a hero in-game, as Ven's mistaken for a thief a lot and Terra's an anti-hero in just about every sense.
