’Song of the Phantom’ toy, distributed with kid’s meals at Jack in the Box in 1999, part of the first of the restaurant’s two Universal Monsters series. The seated Phantom figure shares the same masked, not-quite-Chaney design as the well-known CVS ‘Stuffins’ plushies also released that year. 3 by 3 by 4 ½ inches. And if you’re wondering how much fun a kid could have with a tiny, immovable statuette, take note of the holes along the base: this thing also doubles as a functional harmonica!

Hand-crafted wooden ornament by Steinbach, the world famous nutcracker manufacturer. This 3 1/2 inch tall figure is just one of a number of Phantoms created by Steinbach over the years. While this particular little guy is intended to be hung on a Christmas tree, a very similar piece was also produced with a music box base that played ‘Music of the Night’.

Wishbone as Raoul de Chagny, 12 inch plush produced by Equity Toys in 1996. ‘Wishbone’ was a popular children’s edutainment show broadcast on public television in the mid-90s, in which the titular book-loving Jack Russell Terrier imagined himself as a character in various classic stories (among a cast of humans, I should note). Various tie-in books and toys were also produced---including this plush version of the-Raoul-most-likely-to-fetch-a-scarf-from-the-sea, as seen in the classic episode ‘Pantin’ at the Opera’ (not to be confused with the parody adult film of the same name).

‘Creepy Organ Player’ outdoor Halloween inflatable, produced by Gemmy Industries in 2008. Over SEVEN FEET TALL. This inflatable is both animated and plays ‘4 scary Halloween sounds’. (Not officially marketed as a Phantom-based item—but come on, just look at it.)

‘Phantom of the Organ’ figurine from Department 56′s ‘Snow Village Halloween’ collection. This piece was produced from 2003 to 2006. 9 inches tall. When switched on, the figurine plays a combination of ‘Toccata and Fugue’ and spooky sound effects, the Phantom’s arms move, and the lanterns and eyes of the organ’s skeleton face are illuminated. It is possible that the design of this piece drew inspiration from Greg Hildebrandt’s illustration of Leroux’s unmasking scene.

Papier-mache Phantom bobblehead figure, sold as a souvenir at Universal Studios California in the 1960s. 6 1/2 inches tall. (Just in case you ever wondered what it would look like if you crossed Lon Chaney with the Annoying Orange.)

Porcelain ‘Christine Daae’ doll, issued in Russia by DeAgostini in 2014, as part of their ‘Ladies of the Epoch’ magazine tie-in collection. 7 1/2 inches tall. Every doll in this line,  each based on a famous female literary character (though with largely film-inspired designs), was accompanied by a short booklet/magazine giving background information on the character and her era of history.
