a loud, long, and tired sigh draws from her lips. chiyo’s sitting at her kitchen table, head between her hands. her fingers methodically rub against her temples, preemptively. she knows in half an hour she’s going to get a migraine that’ll keep her up for evening, following into the next morning. chiyo sucks in a deep breath of air, holding it in for a few seconds before letting out a shuddering exhale. it’s nights like these were she wonders what went wrong, and why did things have to come down to this. sayuri was gone, left with her father for the long weekend. ( every weekend felt like torture when her daughter would leave her side. ) her child’s father had left her with this newly forming migraine and added even more stress to her faux domestic lifestyle. kazuhira had shown up at her home a few hours prior and instead of her answering the door, she had sent the man she has replaced him with to answer the door, not giving a second thought as to who was waiting behind the threshold. one mistake lead to another and it ended up in an explosive fight between the ex-couple.
steve saw everything. steve heard everything and he learned the hard way just who exactly her ex-husband was. chiyo was ashamed and embarrassed, not realizing that perhaps maybe, just maybe these two knew each other. he got caught in the crossfire and felt the wrath of kazuhira. something she’s grown accustomed to. chiyo doesn’t hear steve coming into the kitchen; she’s trying her best to block everything out. but when she looks up and her eyes land on his face, she can’t help but to burst into tears. the guilt is eating her alive and it’s making it hard to look at him. she’s takes a couple of quick breaths, trying to calm down, frantically wiping at her eyes, trying to regain composure.
“------ i... i’m sorry,” she finally replies. “i’m so, so, so sorry.”
