Opinions on When the moon hatched
More may be added at any time. Spoilers below.
- The reason Raeve refuses to remember her past is not because she is a brat or stubborn or because it suits the plot, as I have seen people comment. She refuses to remember because it hurts. She endured more pain and had a sadder life than most. She suffered in so many different ways, she lost her family, her kingdom, her dragon, her lover, her powers, her freedom and the list goes on. Think of a bone that healed the wrong way and to reset it you need to break the bone and relive the pain again.
- The writing style sucks. It’s unnecessary difficult and with words no one really uses, not even in fantasy. I thought I was lacking in knowledge of English but it sucks in Portuguese too. Mind you, I have a masters degree so it’s not like I’m poorly educated.
- Love Kaan. Want Kaan to find all the love and happiness. I enjoyed his POVs, even when not completely necessary.
- Veya adds nothing to the book. Honestly, many people presented ads nothing to the book. I still don’t understand where the story is going.
- Every diary entry hurt. I’m so sorry for Elluin.
- The world building is complex and the Gods personalities are amazing. They match completely with their elements and I enjoyed their “consciousness”. What I did not enjoy was how many creatures the author included on the first book. No one wants to go back to the glossary every few chapters and, again, many creatures added nothing to the plot.
- I feel we have seen the sassy assassin plot so many times that is kind of tiring, but let’s see.
