Mariel Mariel en Vice Canada
Three current or former Vice journalists told the Post that a former Vice editor offered each of them $10K to carry illicit cargo hidden in the lining of suitcases from Las Vegas to Australia
smhhhh. these guys might never come back
NEW YORK (AP) — Vice Media plans to lay off several hundred employees and no longer publish material on its Vice.com website, the company's
hahaha.
hahahahaha.
I mean, you know what they say about going woke and going broke and all that. It always seems to ring true lol
hahahahahahahaha
There was one thing that Vice ever did that I really liked, but it was from Vice Canada. It was a piece of "gonzo journalism" (the quotes are here because Gonzo style isn't supposed to include personal bias, but this one did come in with bias fully charged to 100%) called "Armed and Reasonable"
If you don't feel like watching the video, here's the quick TL;DR synopsis:
Late millennial Torontonian woman with an "icky" opinion of firearms decides to go through the steps involved in what it takes to get a gun in Canada
Her friends are vehemently against this, afraid she'll turn into violent psychopath or risk getting shot. Each friend clearly enjoying a sheltered city life of daily Starbucks and high-privilege.
She's surprised at how much the firearms are treated with respect towards safety and laws first by the gun owning community
She has an emotional breakdown not by shooting but by being near a higher caliber rifle going off. Likely having been overwhelmed by the concussive shockwave. The lady who fired the rifle consoles her on camera.
She's also a bit surprised at just how many women are a part of the sport shooting community
Discovering how painfully annoying both the course and the written & practical exams are to get through and pass just for a non-restricted license
Shock at how long the approval process is for the license
Shocked at how long it then takes for the physical license to then show up in the mail
Buys a Henry Golden Boy lever action rifle in a local gun store. This is a 22LR. She at least bought within her comfort zone. Responsible choice. Also as an aside, an excellent choice even if they didn't know it and were just giggling at the name. It is a very pleasant and fun to shoot rimfire rifle platform that I can easily recommend to any current or future gun owner.
Brings her yuppie friends along to the range, and they wind up having a great time
Her friends now have a bit of understanding why people might like target shooting. They "get it" a bit more.
She winds up selling her rifle because she realizes the literal mountain of laws and regulations Canadian gun owners have to navigate and respect just aren't something she's willing to continue dealing with
Comes away with a deeper appreciation and far more knowledge about the subject at hand, but recognizes it's just not for her. A completely fair and responsible assessment.
