All 1st Year dancers please read
First years you all need to read the tasks below. They are clearly linked to the criteria that you will be covering throughout your summer process and what you are going to be assessed on.
Technique classes and Rehearsals
You will contribute to the development of performance pieces and learn technical jazz and contemporary movement phrases to create a range of performance work for the showcase. You will work in rehearsals with a professional attitude and respond to direction and correction to enable you to improve as a performer to ensure that you understand the stylistic requirements of each performance piece.
· You will be expected to approach all technique sessions with a professional, positive and consistent manner throughout the creative process
· You will need to demonstrate a highly disciplined approach to these sessions by being on time and dressed in the correct attire ready to work
· You will need to research the Pop Stars and songs being used in each of the performance pieces that you are involved in to ensure that you fully understand the work you are performing. This should be documented on your Tumblr site
· You will need to take responsibility for rehearsing all material given to you by refining the work both in rehearsals and independently so that you are able to reach your full potential as a dancer
· You need to take on all technical direction and any other corrections given by your choreographers in a positive and constructive manner to help you improve and perform with high levels of technical proficiency
You will participate in Technical and Dress rehearsals to en sure the company is fully prepared for the performance
You will perform in June Performance Showcase based on the theme Pop Starts from the Past at The Miskin Theatre on 31 May - 5/ June 2016. You will need to develop your performance skills throughout both rehearsals and perform with unmistakeable confidence and ease. You will need to execute the material to a high standard of technical accuracy along with portraying a meaning to an audience.
You will be assessed on your ability to:
· Use appropriate physical and technical skills (e.g. flexibility, strength, stamina, alignment)
· Use appropriate interpretative skills to communicate the dance idea to the audience (e.g. facial expression, awareness of others, musicality and timing, projection, emphasis and focus)
· Perform using the appropriate stylistic features for the style of each performance
You will evaluate weekly workshops, technique classes and rehearsals alongside your overall performance during show week
You should thoroughly evaluate your technical and performance skills by continuously setting yourself focused and challenging targets.
You will need to show a clear awareness of your individual strengths and areas for development and put strategies in place as to how your going to improve and maintain these.
You should refer to your:
· Use of appropriate physical and technical skills
· Use of appropriate interpretative skills to communicate with the audience
· Ability to perform using the appropriate stylistic features for the style of performance that you have chosen
The improvements you make will be obvious throughout performance as rehearsals will have given you the opportunity to explore your limitations and capabilities through taking risks and pushing yourself to your full potential and addressing nearly all corrections.
You will all take part in a company debrief on the 7/6/16 to discuss your overall thoughts and feelings of the performance process. Throughout your debrief you will discuss the areas in which you felt were successful and unsuccessful and what you could have done to improve and maintain these. You will be expected to take individual and group notes throughout to help support your overall evaluation.
