I had a chance to study and be dazzled by this perfectly preserved vintage wedding gown. The intricate detail, the quality of fabric and sewing were beyond my expectations. By mid 19 century women’s magazines were already proclaiming that not only was white the best color for a wedding dress, but that it had in fact always been the best and most appropriate choice. Victorian ideals of romantic love and purity were projected backward to rewrite the white dress as a symbol of innocence rather than wealth.
