if he was any other kid that'd be a smart plan, would be the best way to keep them both safe. but he's not any other kid, he’s not a normal kid at all. so he's not at all hesitant before stepping directly in front of her, putting himself between her and the man from the lab. she'd tried to save him, now he'd try to return the favor. there’s only a few seconds passing before his hands are raised and fire shoots out. it doesn’t harm the man, just keeps him at a distance. these are warning shots, but he's ready to kill if he has to.
