violet fears being not enough as a normal person. ( "we act normal, mom, i wanna BE normal!" ) what if she's not even good at being normal? what if she's done all this, rejecting being a hero, hiding her powered self away, giving up on using her powers...what if it's all for nothing? and she's still too incomplete even as a normal person? and the fact that she tried helping people with investigating missing persons, saving people during the storm, only to get kidnapped herself and nothing come from it other than 'well yeah, that just happens'...the fear is: what if everything amounts to nothing? what if her parents and her brother are just too big, too fast, too glorious, even for her? not good enough as a hero, not good enough as a normal person. can't even hold down a job. can't even write when that's the only thing that made her happy in metroville. what if her fate is just to never be seen? there it is.
she also fears losing her family to the dangers of being a superhero. just like their parents lost their friends.

but part of the application was to showcase herself, not just her writing. and they had a lot of questions about her family and what it was like to grow up in metroville. violet was eighteen and still living in this fear of being found out. so she declined it in a hurry. the award was passed on to someone else. and she never told her family.
