There was talk of a monster in the town and Sam had figured that meant a vampire. In a way she was right, a vampire was a problem.
It was nearly sun-up, when she finally spotted the vampire. He was retreating to a sheltered area, and fortunately wasn't very aware. Sam waited behind a tree for a clear shot, and when it came up she fired her crossbow. She took her time walking up to the dying vampire and bent down to reach for the bolt that was already sitting in the vampire's ashy remains.
However, she realized a bit suddenly that there was not just one problem.
Hearing a crunch of leaves behind her Sam quickly jumped to the side and turned grabbing her stakes.
There, snarling, was yet another vampire, his hands were curled as if they ached to grab something. His dirtied blond hair was matted in certain areas and he wore simple work clothes, the trousers tattered at the bottom from being too long for him. He rushed Sam reaching out to grab her. Sam quicky side-stepped and pushed his arms aside with a sweep of her left forearm, but she stepped into the pile of clothes and ash and instead of hitting his heart the stake went into his side.
The blond pushed her away hissing, "You missed." before shooting into the forest. Sam cursed under her breath as he ran and began to approach before she noticed another presence. Her head spun to see what was there, her body soon following the movement.
