All skins and build made by me!
So much weight to Virgil not knowing what to say to his younger self when they all get to greet themselves symbolically in the end card:
- Virgil's never been one to embody the "it gets better" sentiment
- he doesn't KNOW how to really comfort anyone, much less himself. His best bet is just sitting by himself in his melancholy
- his younger self being so apathetic to his surroundings that he can't even bare to acknowledge the older version of himself
- baby Virgil doesn't get the same chatharsis the other young sides do, he is stuck believing that older Virgil will still be just as invisible and unworthy of attention as he believed himself to be at that moment
If he had looked up at his older self, even for a split second, he would have SEEN that Virgil becomes an important enough player to Thomas that he's actually granted a COLOR in Thomas' psyche.
I wanted so badly for tiny Virgil to notice that he isn't just wearing black or dull shades of grey plaid anymore. I always viewed that as Virgil never really considering himself important enough to be a VISIBLE part of the colorful spectrum of Thomas' personality (a representation of his self-acceptance and pride)
He never felt worthy of a color.
And although I was disappointed at first that Virgil was the only one not really interacting with his past self, it actually just drives home how much baby Virgil disliked himself back then.
There is so much tragedy in the fact that past Virgil never even bothered to look at his present self...because he couldn't envision a version of himself that was liked.
He never did see a future where he was loved.
But if he had looked...he would have seen purple.
His older self chose PURPLE, which holds SO MUCH MORE WEIGHT now that we know that the cart came before the horse.
His eyeshadow didn't turn purple after his acceptance, the flashback confirmed that Virgil's euphoric butterfly state has always been purple.
Not only would baby Virgil have realized that his older self is loved and SEEN, he would have looked into a future where the glittery purple eustress color he was so regretful about in that moment was being embraced and worn proudly.
Never forget that in spite of Virgil's initial shame and guilt over his own eustress state:
