I just got the switch online virtual boy attachment, and I'm super excited to use it. I'm a little sad that they didn't include the controller, but maybe 8bitdo or someone will make a version of it.
That aside; I wanted to post about the switch 2 generation more broadly and how... barren it feels? And how weird that is?
Nintendo HAS released a fair amount of games over the course of the switch 2's existence, but it hasn't felt like the big hitters are here at all. No 2d mario. No 3d mario. No 3d zelda.
Echoes of wisdom came out! But it felt... less? Like they didn't put as much into it. Donkey kong bananza is awesome, but it's not gripping me like mario odyssey did.
Metroid prime 4 was GREAT for me. That felt like a proper big Nintendo experience.
Outside of that though? Nothing really caught my eye. Ocarina of time remake is sort-of positioned as THE big Zelda thing, but isn't that weird? A remake? Like, it could be the biggest remake ever, but... it's just Ocarina of time.
And on top of that, the party game side has been light. Where's the new mario party? Why is switch sports resort only coming out NOW? Where's (and forgive me for saying this) the mario kart world expansions?
Nintendo explicitly said that they'd make the 80 dollar price tag on mario kart world worth it... I'm still waiting on that. We can't even turn off the traversal laps between tracks in a grand prix yet. Come on.
We got drag and drive instead of a new arms. We haven't gotten splatoon yet. Rhythm heaven feels like it's been crawling towards release forever. It just feels like the switch 2 is wonky with its release schedule. It was especially jarring seeing it compared to the Playstation and Xbox showcases. There truly were some deeply exciting games at both of those. Not so much at the Switch showcase.
Maybe I'm just not the current nintendo market. With my platformer-f-zero-metroid ass. IDK. I'm just mixed on the whole gen right now.
