Stunning Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds at sunrise this morning. Looking towards Ireland’s Eye from Portmarnock Beach, Co. Dublin. These clouds have a distinct, wave-like pattern, almost like ocean waves in the sky. They form when there is a difference in wind speed or direction between two layers of air, creating a rolling, wave effect.

A flying visit to Dublin
Although I dreamed about it, I don't think I ever truly believed that my career could see me traveling. Last week it did. I received the request to stage manage a ballet in Dublin, and all I could do was to say yes. So I flew to Dublin a few days later, and I had the most wonderful time. I booked a room at the Leevin Hostel George, a two minute walk away from the O'Reilly Theatre where I'd be working the next day.
The evening I arrived I decided on a slow evening stroll, as the weather was soft and perfect for a wander around a city I had seen many times before in the daylight. In 2016 I travelled to Dublin on my own just after I had dropped out of my university course. I'd spent a week discovering all of its free museums, including the frightening wax museum, the castle and its gardens, and Dublin Zoo! It meant that for this flying visit I did not feel the pressure to cram as many attractions as possible within a very short amount of time. I walked along the river, nipped into Tesco for some girly dinner and breakfast for the next morning, passed the castle and Temple Bar, which was still covered in stunning Christmas decorations. After a brisk and refreshing walk I returned to the hostel for dinner and Gilmore girls.
The next morning I took my time to slowly wake up and walked my temporary local. Just around the corner I found Koffee & Kale, a place I quite instantly fell in love with, not just because a 'small' oat latte was still quite sizeable, but also because of its lovely staff making me feel very welcome! They later wow'ed me with their biscoff overnight oats which I had for lunch in between shows, and the next morning they did it again with another oat latte. As I need some cash for the bus, the lovely barista was incredibly helpful and we had a brief chat on where I was from and where I was headed. I might actually miss that place...
After aforementioned lovely interaction I got on the bus to the airport and was disappointed at how busy Dublin Airport was, but I did get myself an incredible peanut butter and banana cacao shake so the disappointment didn't last long. Knackered from the long day's work before and the many impressions and new people I'd met I slept throughout the flight, although it still wasn't long enough... In about 50 minutes I landed back on English ground with a new and impressive job to the CV and the request to join the company again for shows in London and Liverpool next month!
In the footsteps of rebels at Kilmainham Gaol
Inspired by May the 4th, I wrote a piece on Kilmainham gaol, a jail in Dublin that saw the last days of some of Irelands most famous rebels and freedom fighters. Check out the lastest post on my blog!
