Do you think our visitors are wonderful and insightful human beings and have a passion for getting their feedback? We are still looking for two rock star volunteers to administer visitor feedback surveys on Wednesday July 17th at Longmire and Thursday July 18th at Paradise. If you are interested please email [email protected]. Thanks!
**VOLUNTEERS NEEDED**
Every year Mount Rainier National Park distributes and collects visitor feedback surveys with the help of our outstanding volunteers. Our goal is to gather information on the visitor experience across all of our visitor types and demographics so that we may better serve the people we are here for. There are four locations we collect data from, twice at each location. We need volunteers who will take post in a heavy visitor use area at one of these locations and distribute 50 surveys to interested visitors over the course of four hours (more specific directions will be given). The eight time slots we need volunteers to fill are:
Saturday, July 6, at Longmire, from 10:00 - 2:00
Sunday, July 7, at Paradise, from 10:00 - 2:00
Saturday, July 13, at Sunrise, from 10:00 - 2:00
Sunday, July 14, at Ohanapecosh, from 10:00 - 2:00
Wednesday, July 17, at Longmire, from 1:00 - 5:00
Thursday, July 18, at Paradise, from 1:00 - 5:00
Thursday, July 25, at Sunrise, from 1:00 - 5:00
Friday, July 26, at Ohanapecosh, from 1:00 - 5:00
If you are interested in filling one (or more than one) of these slots, contact Mattie at [email protected] or (360) 569-6588.
Thanks in advanced!
Visitor Survey volunteers needed!
Here's an easy way to put in a few hours as a volunteer! Every year, the National Park Service hands out survey forms at primary visitor contact centers around Mount Rainier. These surveys help us to monitor how well we're meeting visitor needs, and to get a sense of where and how to improve. Survey time slots are 4 hours long, though during the busy summer period it usually doesn't take the whole time period to go through a stack of forms. Surveyors simply need to stand in a predetermined location at a set time and ask a random selection of visitors if they'd be willing to take a survey form, which can be mailed back at their convenience. If you're interested in helping, please RSVP right away to [email protected] so that we can set up our schedule. We'll follow up with more details about where to go and what to do. Here's the 2014 Survey Schedule -- and thank you for your help! 2014 Survey Schedule

Volunteers Help Out With Visitor Surveys
From Ohanapecosh to Nisqually, from Sunrise to Mowich Lake, volunteers have been gathering demographic data from visitors this week at many locations throughout the Park. Based on a process referred to as "interval sampling" in which a given number of surveys are handed out regularly over the course of a day, the interviewer collects basic information (name, address and phone number) from the visitor, and then sends them on their way with a printed questionnaire in hand. These printed surveys are returned post-paid and the demographic data is tabulated by the University of Idaho. The results of the surveys are returned to the participating Park, where it is used to assist in making administrative decisions. This is an excellent opportunity for our valued guests to feel they are helping make the Park a better place to visit. Please wave at our smiling volunteers as you pass by!
Visitor Survey Volunteers needed!
Next month, the University of Idaho's Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU), in cooperation with Mount Rainier National Park, will be conducting parkwide visitor surveys to track demographics and a number of other issues. Volunteers are needed to help hand out questionnaires and conduct interviews with park visitors over a week-long period in early August. Can you help? Surveys will be conducted daily from Saturday, August 4 through Friday, August 10. One volunteer per day is needed to help at the Nisqually Entrance, and an additional volunteer is needed on Sunday, August 5 at Stevens Canyon Entrance. If weather is bad the first weekend, volunteers will also be needed to finish up the project on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12. The entire week's work can be done by two volunteers, or it can be divided up among a larger number of individuals. The last time this survey was conducted was in 2000. The survey is led by the University of Idaho, but volunteers will help us cover more areas. Volunteers will help by distributing questionnaires to park visitors. Each interviewer will conduct 2-minute interviews with selected visitors at to determine if the visitor will take a mail-back questionnaire. The interviewer will also gather some information from the visitors. During the interview, each interviewer will be required to ask people for some personal information including age. We are looking for people who are over 18 years of age, friendly and outgoing, like working with people, are good at basic recordkeeping, are reliable, and can follow directions. Also, since we will be stopping cars at entrance stations, volunteers need to be physically fit to work outdoors and stay on their feet for most of the day. Prior experience is not required as an hour and a half of training will be provided at the park before the surveys begin. The CESU team will arrive at the park on August 2nd, and can provide the training on the 3rd and throughout the week as needed. Each person must be able to commit 8 hours minimum to work on the survey and must be available for training before they started working. Free camping will be provided to volunteers at the Longmire Volunteer Campground or Ohanapecosh Campground. If you're interested in helping, please contact Mount Rainier National Park's volunteer coordinator, Kevin Bacher, as soon as possible by e-mail at [email protected], and send a copy to the Survey Supervisor, Lena Le, at [email protected]. Please indicate which dates you're available for helping. If you have questions, give Kevin a call at 360-569-6567, or call Lena at 208-596-1671. Thank you for helping to understand and better serve our visitors at Mount Rainier National Park!
