@hanayomemomo welp count me in xD
@vitrum-oculi:
(shes gotta hide from shun somehow--) "Could I possibly hide out here for a couple minutes or so? Captain Kyoraku is finally doing work and I don't care to jinx it by standing over him. I can simply read and leave you alone. You won't know I'm here Abarai-san"
Eyebrows raising in response, he watches her, a bit bewildered, before ultimately coming to his senses and giving her a half-hearted shrug. ❛ Fine by me. Kuchiki-Taichō just left here a few minutes ago, but I don’t think he’d mind you sticking around all that much. ❜
Amuse Me
Leave a “Amuse Me” in my ask, and I will write a funny drabble about my character trying to cheer your up.
In all honesty, it was a bit surreal. Most everything appeared to be the same …and yet somehow, inertly, Kisuke knew that everything here was going to be vastly different from now on. The fact that he was back here again was all the proof of that he needed. It was almost like a dream to be standing before the barracks once again, after being banished from the Seireitei so many years ago …and the only reason he had been pardoned of those crimes of which he’d been accused was due to the revelation of Sousuke Aizen’s betrayal ...and, in no small part, to the inauguration of the new Captain-Commander, Shunsui Kyoraku.
A breeze floated through the courtyard, gently plying at the branches of the trees and pleasantly rustling their leaves with its warm caress. It plucked a few of the freshly bloomed sakura blossoms from their homes and carried them down across the yard, one of which floated seamlessly into the lap of the shopkeeper as he sat on a stone bench beside in the familiar company of the Captain-Commander’s own lieutenant. Glancing down to it, he smiled a bit as he scooped it up into his palm, watching lazily as a few lower-ranking shinigami moved through the courtyard, carrying everything from boxes of important files and documents to office furniture.
❝ – so they’re finally moving all of Captain Kyoraku’s stuff into his new office, huh? Seems like a lot of things have changed around here. ❞
He addressed the woman at his side with an easy smile; and it was most certainly a gross understatement. It seemed that Nanao couldn’t help but to agree with him as she watched the staff move her cherished Captain’s belongings through the courtyard with a somewhat wistful expression.
“Yes... It seems that a lot of things are going to be different from now on.”
The lingering edge of regret in her tone prodded Kisuke’s insatiable curiosity, and he watched her countenance with interest as he pressed the subject.
❝ – but isn’t that a good thing? Especially after this whole mess with Aizen, I’d say just about any change would be for the better. If I didn’t know any better, I’d almost say you sounded worried. ❞
He quipped with some skepticism. Her expression shifted to one Kisuke couldn’t quite discern for the simple fact that she seemed to be struggling between many emotions ...it was an amalgamation of remorse, self-depreciation, and anxiety.
“...I suppose that’s silly, isn’t it? But the truth is, I am worried. My Captain ...he’s inheriting quite the responsibility. Between cleaning up the destruction Aizen left in his wake, and all the new duties he’ll be assigned that come with the weight of holding the Soul Society on his shoulders ...he hasn’t been the same lately. He’s become far more somber and reserved. I suppose I should be grateful that he’s taking his work seriously for once, but I ...I am concerned for him. I fear he isn’t in the right mind to be taking on so much, especially after ...”
Her voice trailed off, but there was no need for her to complete the unsavory thought. It had already become clear to Kisuke precisely what she was attempting to refer to. His own expression darkened somewhat as the weight of Ukitake’s loss settled over the both of them like a weighty stone -- but surely it was nowhere near the level of grief and loss that Shunsui himself must have been feeling. He supposed Nanao couldn’t help but worry about her superior and the vast overhaul of changes his promotion was going to bring to not only himself, but to the entirety of the Seireitei.
...still. That was no reason to be pessimistic, was it? After all, it was as he’d said -- after the nightmare that Aizen’s revolt had proven to be, any change would ultimately be perceived as one for the better in comparison to what they had all suffered as a collective society. Glancing down to the delicate flower in his palm, he smiled and wordlessly moved to tuck a stray strand of her ebony hair that had escaped its clasp from the back of her head back behind the delicate shell of her ear before tucking the pale pink flower there to hold it in place. She started a bit and stared at him in disbelief as her hand lifted to unconsciously brush the tiny flower, her expression stunned a bit as he smiled and breathed an easy reply.
❝ – well then. It sounds to me like it’s a good thing he’ll have you to help him with all that, huh? ❞
She blinked a few times surreptitiously, her wide, dark eyes brightening with the sudden realization that Urahara was attempting to quell her worries ...and she couldn’t help but to smile to herself a bit as she turned her gaze back down into her lap, and the knot she’d been tying in her chest loosened just a little.
“...yes. I suppose you’re right about that.”
Kisuke smiled in turn and leaned back on the heels of his palms, looking up to watch the sun peek down at them through the shifting canopy of leaves and cherry blossoms above.
❝ – of course I am! I’m always right ~ ❞
