"classic quitter energy," xavier said, addressing the ceiling with a tragic sigh, but didn't pull his arm from asher's touch. he could feel the heat crawling up his neck despite the bath already going lukewarm. he then bent his knee, shifting so water sloshed over the side, catching asher right in the shin. the tile glistened obscenely beneath the hotel lighting. "see? now you have no choice. you're already wet," he observed, pointing at the slowly spreading puddle between asher's feet. "might as well commit."

"There's leftover sufganiyot if you want. We can eat them while we open presents." Elio said, pointing to the plate with jelly donuts sitting on the counter. He had made and brought them to his family's Hanukkah party and there was enough to take back home with him and Avery. As he predicted, his family liked Avery, loved her even, seeing how important she was to him. But now they were back home, lights on the tree twinkling merrily, ready to spend the rest of the evening alone. Elio hadn't really done Christmas before but he was excited to do it with Avery. He had definitely gone a little overboard on presents, thrilled to have a girlfriend during the holiday season, but it was what he was planning on admitting that was the most important gift. He just hoped she would be nice if she didn't feel the same.

“do i need help pouring myself a drink? i’m not totally incompetent,” rowan huffed — no, she was only incompetent when it came to speaking what was on her mind. she turned her head to glance at him, shaking her head a bit before she turned back to focus on what she was doing. “why did you follow me?” she swirled the mix around in her cup and brought it to her lips to taste, “not having fun?”

It felt like the world stopped spinning, and she swore she forgot how to breathe. All the things Annalise had been trying to bury, all the reasons she told herself this could never work, came rushing to the surface at once. Their throat tightened as they searched his face, as if trying to decide whether they could trust what they'd just heard. "You can't just say that like it's nothing, you know," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly despite her best effort to stay steady. "You don't get to break me in half and then tell me you love me like it fixes everything."

confusion is exchanged for surprise and perhaps he should be outraged, but he can't find it in himself to be mad at jonas for this. it would be false, feigned and would hardly serve any purpose at all. "oh..." he starts, struggling to discern exactly what to say about any of this. the blond can't comprehend what being royal must be like at the best of times, let alone when stuck in an intense situation like this. he could still hear the shouting, could swear that he could still see the flashing of the camera lights through the window where the curtain didn't quite reach. "oh." he adds on as if it's at all necessary, though without a word he's wrapping his hand loosely around the other's wrist, leading him towards his kitchen which was in the back, further away from potential prying eyes. "do you want a cup of tea?" he questions then. simple, but hopefully effective. after all, wasn't it the british way? to get through any dilemma with a cup of tea in hand? "then uh - then we can work out how to...uh..." he gestures nonsensically, struggling to wrap his head around this fresh information. "we can work it all out."

it was getting close to that time: fall (or autumn). they had reached what she feels is the best time of the year — the last few months of it. holidays in succession include halloween, christmas, new years, and she was extremely excited for them, especially with the turbulent summer she just had (with her other best friend almost marrying a total tool and whatnot). now, here she was, a huge smile on her face as she started to make her way into the annual fall fair. complete with the cooler weather, the familiar sounds of people screaming and whatnot, and a bunch of people walking back and forth, she was truly looking forward to a fun day today. "so..." aaliyah started, looking around as she took in everything, a smile on her face before she looked back towards peyton. "what do you wanna do first? plenty of rides, plenty of people, and literally loads of time to enjoy it — possibilities are almost endless." she instinctively linked arms with her; it felt almost normal, and it was, but she couldn't help but feel her heart burst a little bit at the sheer contact between them. "wanna start small and work our way up?" she suggested.
