“Something is familiar...like a dream I can reach but not quite hold...” 🎶 SO EXCITED to reveal the very 1st “Show Yourself” music video sneak peek! ❄️ (& peek at the gorgeous costuming by @glimmerwood !) Something IS familiar, but also brand new! 5 yrs. ago when we filmed “Let It Go” here at the @icecastles_ I had a damaged voice. It was so difficult belting out those notes because my chords were obstructed by a vocal polyp that caused me a lifetime of pain, frustration & isolation. I lived my life halfway, b/c about half the time I was hiding away on vocal rest. But now I’m a new person. ⠀ ⠀ One surgery & 2 years of re-learning how to sing has given me my life back. When I was recording “Show Yourself” the other night, @amytreadwelltoy said to me, “it’s like your old voice is singing to your new voice.” It didn’t hit me then, but a day later I was listening to our track in my car on my way up to @glimmerwood that it did. Now I cry everytime I hear it, because I had no idea how different my life could be until I got well. Don’t take your health, your voice or your God-given gifts for granted you guys-you’ll never know how devastating it is to lose them till they’re gone. I’m so grateful for my second chance at being a singer, & this new song has been such a great learning experience for me, both vocally & emotionally. NEVER give up on your dreams you guys! Miracles do happen, and I’m proof! I can’t wait to share this one with you. Would you guys want to see a new Little Mermaid tribute music video project? Lmk in the comments ❤️ ⠀ ⠀ It’s been 7 years since this came out (my first ever music video!) I’ve learned and grown so much. In a horribly ironic twist of fate, like Ariel, I lost my voice. (I battled vocal polyps my whole life, but when I developed a second one, I had to stop singing). It was painful, and scary, but 2 years ago I met a surgeon who gave me hope that I could have a healthy voice for the first time in my life. I believe it was a divine appointment, and spirit-led. I underwent vocal chord surgery, and now I am finally and wholly recovered. I don’t have a perfect voice now by any means, but I have a healthy one! Singing is a completely different experience from what it once was: I’m not in pain. I’m not afraid of the high notes. I don’t have to push through the wall in my throat that fought me with every song. I remember being pretty happy with this Part of Your World cover back in 2012. It was the best I could do at the time. But listening to it now, I hear the pain, the struggle and the hoarseness that was always with me. I’m considering a new tribute to my favorite mermaid next year; something special. Maybe a new POYW cover...maybe more. And adding to that, a music project that speaks to who I have become since then. What’s important to me, the lessons I’ve learned and the story I feel led to share. I’m hoping by opening up, my story can help others going through similar things. Do you want to go on that journey with me? It’ll be a long road and a huge, daunting project, but I think it might just be the most important one yet. I’d love to have you guys with me for all of it.
