It’d already been hard enough to keep her thoughts straight  ( this was a MOMENT OF WEAKNESS; to think, Kris Clarity, Capturer Extraordinaire was admitting that she thought someone was, gulp, p-pretty? How obscene! )  and that was even before he’d... accepted it? He’d said ‘thank you’ — what did that mean in this context?! Suddenly she found herself regretting not reading more shoujo manga.  Her head was awhirl, and she’d just gotten to the point where she’d registered that she should probably insist: no, you don’t understand, you’re so pretty I want to cry and punch myself in the face, when he spoke more, turned the topic of conversation to her, and he——

“ Wh — u-um, ah — ah jeez, uh — f-fuck—— ”

He’d complimented her — her face flushed an impossibly deeper shade of crimson and a hand flew to one of her pigtails, twirling blue locks around her index finger. The straightforwardness of it had caught her by surprise, and as she stammered she chanced a glance at his face  ( as if waiting for the punchline )  before deciding she was much more comfortable looking at the ground.

“ Nn — it — it’s natural, d’ya know it’s natural?? It, um — people!! Used ta gimme a real hard time ‘bout it!! ‘Dey, uh, t-told me I should just dye it, but!! B-but, I, uh. I didn’t!! S-so, um... s’blue, and, uh... ”

The poor girl was babbling; her brain was racing on autopilot and she couldn’t seem to shut up until she bit down on her fist. She practically whimpered around her knuckles, and the buildup of sheer nervous energy was causing her to shake, bounce on the balls of her feet, fidget terribly. She looked like she was going to be sick.
