Mireille Paquette
Mireille Paquette, senior in engineering management from Chesterfield, Mo., participates in Up ‘til Dawn, a campus-wide philanthropy event organized by students for students. This event has occurred the past two years at Missouri S&T and has raised more than $55,000 to date for St. Jude. Fundraising takes place throughout the year and a finale event will take place on April 26, 2014. The goal is to raise more than $30,000.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a unique place. After visiting there this summer, it helped me realize that more than anything this is a community for the children and their families going through similar experiences. St. Jude tries to make the kids feel at home and live a life as normal as possible. They have teachers there to help the kids keep up with their school work as well as different social activities. Instead of using wheelchairs, patients are pulled in wagons. They have “No-Mo Chemo” parties when patients finish up their chemotherapy treatments and a cafeteria with an ice cream bar and kid friendly foods.
