Barlee saying that Voltron had to scrap some things regarding the LGBT rep was NOT referring to Klance, but Adam and Shiro. It never had to do with Klance. Barlee was referring to Adam and Shiro. So the theory that was part of the discourse today is denied and proven not to be true. Just wanted to spread the word! Keep doing what you’re doing to make yourselves be heard. It really is making a difference! The way the LGBT rep was handled in season 7 was not okay. I just wanted to clear up that Barlee was referring to Adam and Shiro, not Klance!

I am so mad, so incredibly disappointed

We had been promised so much more than what we actually got. I wouldn’t be upset if they just let Adam live and hold a role like Veronica did. If they just had some canon, healthy LGBT+ rep that isn’t barely mentioned. I wouldn’t be mad if they didn’t hype up rep since season fucking two only to give us a total of three episodes it was addressed, one of which half of the ex-couple dies and the other is a mention and a glance at his memorial.

I understand that Shiro being single doesn’t make him any less gay, but it does bring his visibility as a gay man down to being basically non-existent. I understand that Voltron is an action show, not a romance, but if you are going to awkwardly shoehorn include hetero romances then you can add in a queer one when you promised representation.

I just hope that something happens in season 8. I’ll take anything, any queer ship, just so that we weren’t actually queerbaited. Seriously I don’t care if it is actually something I ship, I just want some good, healthy rep. Having a couple fight and break up, then have one die is NOT good substantial rep. Playing into the ‘bury your gays’ trope is not good rep.

They played us, and they played us hard. I really hope the show runners say something. Anything as to why they released all those things about LGBT+ rep, why they were so tight lipped when all it amounted to these three episodes. Why they played into our excitement and speculation, knowing that this is what the rep was going to be. Did they really think we’d be happy? Did they actually think that with the rampant shipping culture that half of one episode and a few mentions would be enough?
