this is esme, i’m sure you’re all familiar with her but just a not-so quick rundown
she was born just before the turn of the 20th century. she grew up on a farm in ohio and was a real tomboy. if something were to go awry or if chickens were seen scurrying around the yard, esme was usually to blame.
in her mid teens esme fell out of a tree, thus breaking her leg. she ended up being treated by carlisle. as she grew older, esme began to lose her wide-eyed curiosity. she traded her playful pranks in for learning the cello, in attempts for appeasing her parents.
esme got married at 22 and within months, her husband revealed his abusive nature. the rock on her finger almost felt as heavy as her husband’s fists. she was granted a break when her husband was drafted for world war i.
once her husband returned, esme fell pregnant. her maternal instincts took over. esme knew that she could not raise a child in such an unstable and unhealthy environment. esme quietly moved in with her cousin but her husband tracked her down. esme managed to escape again and posed as a widow of war until she gave birth.
though her pregnancy was unconventional, her unborn baby became her everything. esme’s husband was a cloud of darkness but with her baby, she was invincible. her child was her guiding light.
in the late winter of 1921, at home, esme gave birth to a beautiful baby boy but almost instantly disaster struck. after spending two glorious days with her son, he contracted lung fever and passed away. esme left the hospital in a daze and childless. she somehow made it home and with one look at the small crib in her apartment, esme couldn’t breath.
she immediately left her home, wandering the streets all night and as dawn broke, esme jumped from her town’s highest cliff.
at the scene, she was pronounced dead but as she made it to the morgue, carlisle cullen could hear the faint thumping of her heart. yet again, he treated esme’s wounds
esme’s adjustment into vampire life was a challenge. she was temperamental and would easily lose control but with the support of carlisle she eventually re-learned self control and adjusted into the vegetarian diet.
over the years esme and carlisle gained a few pseudo-children, posing as their adopted parents in each town they moved to. even though she knows that it’s impossible, esme still longs for a child of her own.
moving to hudson while losing both edward along with bella was more difficult than she had originally thought that it would be. edward was her first adopted son, and though bella was a new addition, it still was painful to see them both leave. esme knew that there might be a day that the olympic coven would shrink but she wasn’t expecting under these circumstances.
through the years, esme has become a huge advocate for women and children. anonymously, esme regularly donates clothing, books, supplies, children’s toys, and food to shelters across the country.
esme feels passionately to protect women and children in any way that she can.
