Day Four: The GMC system

What do you want? (Goal)

Why do you want it? (Motivation)

What's stopping you? (Conflict)

Thinking back to the motivation(s) you defined yesterday, what is your character’s goal (or goals) and what conflict(s) prevents them from getting to that? In short: Define the GMC for your characters. 

Uh...before I get to that, I think that unexpectedly explains why my one-off antagonist Vrei has stuck with me. I did not know of this formula, but I kind of used it in fleshing her out beyond “person in the characters’ way.”

(What does Vrei want? Goal: get her factory back on track. Why?: because she really wants to run Zarva’s operations in general. He’s an idiot of a Hutt and she’s competent. (So, power, money, control of her life. Also, while Zarva’s not real smart, he’s also not involved in anything that Vrei might have issues with - like running slaves.) What’s stopping you?: Really annoying mercenaries who tried to run off with the also annoying guy Zarva kidnapped. ... And whoops, Vrei is a real person.)

Now, back to the question at hand.

In Jezari’s case, I think I need to look at this from two levels. What she thinks she wants and what she actually wants.

What does Jezari think she wants?: To get her life back to normal.

Why does she want it?: Life is a lot simpler when you’re bouncing around the galaxy with no mystery women or farm boys to look after.

What’s stopping her?: She’s such a sap. She can’t just boot the kid and the mystery woman off her ship. She kind of owes Risha at least one planet on her ridiculous treasure hunt - or whatever she’s really up to. And Corso clearly isn’t up to navigating the galactic underworld on his own. Also...

What does Jezari actually want?: Friends. More specifically friends she’s working with. She’s been reminded just how much she misses that.

Why does she want it?: She’s lonely. Bouncing around the galaxy is more fun when you have someone to share it with, not just tell about your adventures later.

What’s stopping her?: Risha clearly isn’t telling the truth about much of anything. Corso’s really young and kind of an idiot. Also, she’d have to admit to herself that she wants crew/friends, and she’s in denial.

So I just realize that my friend and I never posted this collab because we had a fuck ton of stuff going on. It’s been finish for at least two months now, but hey I’m posting it now. 

My friend Erin asked me if I would do a collab where we both draw lineart of the others oc and then we colored the persons piece. We also colored on our own piece. It’s just a fun way to compare art styles in coloring. I drew their oc Vrei on the left. Then they drew my oc Jiji. We didn’t plan doing each other’s orc oc it just ended up like lmao. I also wanna bring up that I was using the og au of Vrei is from (where she’s a teen) and my friend was using their recent au of Vrei (Where she’s a older adult). So are color pallets ended up being a little different. 

The takeaway from all this is that my friend and I have similar thoughts on shading. Especially if you look at the Jiji piece. We both shaded in the the same places but they’re using a cel shade style and mine is a more of a gradient shading style. Another note is that I drew my piece (the Vrei piece) thinking about what I would do for shading and my brain went “Make it a dark piece and having the main light be from the magic energy coming from Vrei’s hands, and eye.” and I didn’t say that to Erin because I didn’t wanna direct them on what to do. So that ended up coloring the piece so differently. Honestly happy I did because they’re both really cool for different reasons.
