‘ I bet you can’t do it. ‘ That had been the single, childish prompt, that had brought the seven year old face to face with the guarded building. A group of orphans who were out too late at night, because there was simply nobody looking out for them. Getting up to mischief because no child within the group had much love for the small grotty apartments offered to the orphans of deceased war veterans. Of course, being the youngest member there, Orochimaru found they faced the most criticism. They found they needed to prove themself that much more to keep up.
Because they had graduated far earlier than any other child, and they were not used to being around children their age. Talented as they were to end up several ranks ahead of their original class, their skills as a shinobi reflect little about their emotional maturity. It shows, when the juvenile taunt has them throwing caution to the wind. The young viper offering a quick, “try not to run away before I’m back,” a reciprocated taunt as the other kids remain skittishly on the outside. As the golden eyed child moves towards their dare. A building littered with ANBU, guarding something, or someone. A criminal, a war captive, forbidden arts or weapons, a top secret meeting perhaps? The young one doesn’t know, but they do know they have been dared to break the law and enter. Punishable by death, if an ANBU decided upon it. For during these trials of war, few take chances, and determining a threat becomes a blurred line. Deciding who was merely an ill behaved citizen, or was an infiltrating enemy. The child has their peer given assignment however, to break in, and to retrieve something from inside as proof. They have managed to escape the eyes of several ANBU on their way in to the building. A small well trained figure quite adept at keeping a low profile, aided that much more by a companion summon, that does her best to scout ahead. They are feeling as nervous as they are feeling brave. They have successfully escaped the eyes of a few ANBU, or so they think, remaining completely unaware of a kunoichi’s masked gaze upon their small figure, currently hidden behind an array of barrels storing water.
