it’s been 20 years ago that a deposit of fireworks exploded in a residential area in enschede. on a sunny afternoon the neighbourhood roombeek turned into what looked like warzone. 23 people lost their lives, almost 1000 people got hurt.

Ook weet nog waar ik was op #13mei. Ik was een show aan het draaien (licht) in Harderwijk toen mijn toenmalige partner helemaal in paniek belde. Gelukkig was het goed met haar. Maar ik weet nog hoe machteloos ik mij voelde. Zeker ook omdat ik in Roombeek veel mensen ken maakte ik mij zoveel zorgen. Onder andere de drummer van de band Yukka waar ik destijds mee tourde heeft heel veel mazzel gehad ... #Enschede #vuurwerkramp

Wow.. Today it has been exactly 13 years ago when a firework disaster happened in my hometown. I was 7 years old so I don’t remember that much of it, but I do remember that I had lost 2 schoolmates that day. I almost lost my cousin too. She was at a birthday party and luckily the weather was nice so they decided to go outside somewhere else. That’s when the disaster happened.. By the time they got back to their house, it was gone!

The fire led to an enormous explosion which killed 23 people including four firefighters, and injured 947. 400 homes were destroyed and 1500 buildings damaged.

My heart goes out to the victims, family and friends of those who died that day.
