I’m happy to say I’m actually working on the AU comic....little by little. Here’s what the first panel is slated to look like!
being able to do the flatting thing and then adding shade to this brings back so many old memories when I was churning out cool transparent png art and I wasn’t feeling shitty about it
my only problem is that I don’t know which one I should choose for my modern witch au Marluxia -- but I know he has some Jeanne vibes??????
the past: the Millennium War
In the beginning of humanity, there were three distinct groups: witches, exorcists and humans. Witches and Exorcists were born with incredible otherwordly power and were spiritually strong; humans, on the other hand, were weak, but they have the strongest survival instinct and willpower than the other two. The main difference between witches and exorcists is that exorcists, while possessing about the same powers and abilities as witches, were born from humans; which was why they were closely affiliated with humankind.
Witches of the past were considered gods to the humans; almost any ancient civilization worshiped them, erecting monuments in their honor and offering sacrifices to them. This was how they controlled humankind, and this was how the Millennium War began; the rise and fall of every civilization known to history was due to humanity rising from the oppression of their “gods”, new covens of witches rising to created a new order, and the cycle began anew. During this time, Exorcists remain firm within the side of humanity; believing that the powers gifted to them should be used only for the good of the world --- unlike the witches who saw humanity as merely lower beings compared to them, and feared an uprising coming from the Exorcists that hid among humankind.
The war only escalated when the witches themselves were divided; while there were still witches who seek to conquer all of the world and purge it of lesser beings, there were those who believe that humankind (and Exorcists) were of equal standing with them and deserve the same rights as witches do. The differences between these groups began to polarize more and more, and with it a rapidly growing tension that eventually burst out into an all-out war between the witches. It spanned for centuries, dictated the rise and fall of human civilizations, never seeing an end to the bloodshed and strife. During these times, humankind found it best to stay hidden, to survive and wait until the witches grew tired and weary of the war, as all creatures will eventually be.
During the 1000th year, things began to change rapidly. Although shunned even by her own kind, a woman named Esmeralda decided that the world could not wait for the war to be over by itself. Rallying by herself a group of like-minded people, she led grand-scale reconnaissance on the witches with the help of Exorcists, and with her trusted companions, planned and plotted on how best to end the war. They learned that though the war wasn’t over, the witches were beginning to grow weary and tired, their reserve of power almost depleted due to them nearly destroying the world in their battles. Esmeralda believed it was time to strike, when they were at their weakest.
With her lead, the ten years that followed brought on a swift end to a war that could have gone on for another thousand years: because of her leadership and clever planning, the decade was one full of quick stealth missions, assassinations, silent executions, and imprisonment. They were, however, careful to not kill any witch known to have sided with humanity, but these witches were imprisoned all the same, until they knew what to do with them. After the ten years, the war finally ended with the open burning of The Witch Queen herself, along with the public execution of many other witches known to have instigated the war.
Esmeralda was hailed a hero of the people, and eventually she would be the one to introduce Amnesty to the surviving witches, as a reward for fighting humankind’s battle when they could not. The world was allowed to rebuild and recuperate from the war again with the help of human, witch and Exorcist alike, and everything was at peace once more.
I have no idea what to do here but this blog needs to kickstart somewhere so we’re kickstarting it with Xion
