I get more and more calls / messages from national Vespa Club officers as well as members about the current situation within the Vespa World Club. Either to be asked about my opinion and what we could/should do or with the request to candidate again as President of the VWC.
Needless to say that I'm not really willing to be involved, but the ongoing acting of some in the board make me 😳 amazed and unfortunately angry.
Therefore my opinion clear and straight:
1) With last regular elections, two people candidate for the position of the President and not for a board member position. One person won this election and became President, the other person lost the election and logically did not join the board! In the said election, a few other people candidate for the board and the four with the most votes became board member.
2) The elected President resign at this years VWC general assembly (2023) to avoid an impeachment by the AGM, which would, unanimously, lead to a recall from his position as President by the vast majority of the members.
3) The President resigned, but remain in the board (for such position he never was voted in), by whatever reason and on whatever (?legal!?) base! This is, imho, (despite some other issues) not according the will of the members, nor legally clean, nor evidence of good behaviour or democratic understanding.
4) At the AGM the Vice-president took over as President and the GenSecretary announced an extra ordinary AGM for September 2023 to elect a new President.
5) We will have regular elections (new board and President) in 2024.
6) The person who resigned as President (see point 3) is currently running for a re-election in September and included in his campaign an election of new board members for the extra ordinary AGM in September as well as the unproven claim he has the support of the VWC main sponsor (which, imho, can not be true).
7) Till today is it not clear, when, where and how the said extra ordinary AGM will take place, nor what will be the content nor with which proceeding it will happen.
8) If the extra ordinary AGM will take place and the members have to vote for a new President, they only can vote for a President out of the existing board members (pls refer point 3), because all board positions/seats are fully filled!
9) So, no new board members with voting rights can be elected before the period of the existing board members will end.
10) The members can only choose one President out of the current board - for a few months duty! Which rise the question; what shall be the sense?!? We have with our Vice-president acting as President the best possible and honourable Person in charge to run till and prepare the next VWC regular elections in 2024!
There are a lot of issues which have to be solved till the next regular AGM (2024), especially those who had their origin in the acting or non-acting of the current board. Of course, in case I've been asked for, I will contribute with my knowledge as well as support whenever and wherever I'll be able to do so. But, if I'll run again for the position of the President, I'll decide just if it figures out that this will be the "best" solution for the VWC - currently I 🙂 can see a lot of other good possible solutions!
