Death’s Such A Little Thing
He’d never seen anyone die before. Let alone in his arms like this. He’d never felt blood seeping through his clothes until it reached his fur and stuck to him like glue. This had never happened before, not in front of him. Not like this, not with someone he knew.
It came out in a whimper. How did a seemingly simple mission turn to this? Ace had paired them up together to take down one of many robots trying to tear down the city. It should have been easy, he’d trained harder and more, he knew how to use his powers now to morph into a mass of ink and weave through enemies with a quickness that he could take down enemies with. He’d gotten better at fighting, he should… he should have prevented this from happening!
But he couldn’t have, surely. He’d been so focused on taking out the smaller robots coming out of the much bigger one. He had his back turned, he hadn’t seen the sharp projectile being thrown at him. Not until he’d felt a harsh shove and landed forward.
Only to turn and find Tech with projectile sticking out of his chest. Bleeding. Something out of those horror movies.
“Oh my god…” Oswald tried to breathe, to calm himself, but he couldn’t find it in him to even try. His hands shook as he clutched the coyote tighter. This was his friend, someone he worked with, lived with, grew to care for, this shouldn’t have happened! “Oh my god, oh my god, this isn’t happening…”
It was when it really sunk in that his throat grew tight and his eyes burned that he coyote in his arms moved a little, the green electricity taking over the wounded body of his until he woke up, the wound seemingly gone.
Oswald nearly dropped Tech out of shock. “W-What…?” His heart was still racing in his chest, a few tears falling from his eyes as the tightness in his throat subsided. “Y-You’re okay? You’re okay!”
In relief that overcame him, the rabbit threw his arms over coyote and hugged him tight.
“You’re okay! How in the heck are you okay?! No, doesn’t matter, what matters is you’re okay!”
Tech was almost always volunteered when it came to training someone with a new mission. When they were first forming him and Lexi had been the first and he ended up teaching everyone else past that , or at least helping to make sure they survived it. than again when you were as durable as him it was almost an inevitability.
Today found him keeping Oz safe whilst they fought robots. Nothing to horrid at first, in fact Oz was taking care of them really well on his own with Tech having to step in. At least he as until the other robot began shooting shrapnel. Normally not much of an issue, most of the loonatics were either fast enough or durable enough to survive. Oz wasn’t either yet, so when he saw the spear travel towards him, and his yelling didn’t get his attention, he jumped, pushing the rabbit out of the way and taking the spear himself.
As always, oblivion descended upon him. Darkness, without feeling. Isolation, and fear. All at once it left him again, leaving the coyote staring up at a crying Oz. For a moment he had to recollect his thoughts, what had happened? Where were they.. why were there giant metal.... The robots!
A paw outstretched and a vicious green glow and the metal in the ground around them and the walls of the building caved around them to form a sphere to keep them safe.
